As we were driving from Yūtoku Inari Jinja towards Takeo City, I noticed what looked like an old Meiji Era fire station. Rather than continue on our way, we took a little detour and chanced upon a road lined with beautiful centuries-old machiya (townhouses) with shirakabe (white-washed clay walls). What a find! And there wasn’t a soul in sight. I did a Google StreetView search of the area later and it appears that many of the structures have been restored in recent years. If you are in the Shiota-machi area of Ureshino City area, look for this street.
