Summary : Angletonia was a vast and prosperous empire spread in the western hemisphere, ranging from the mega-cosmopolitan mainland to the mountainous southern isles. A Princess from the eastern kingdom was sent to marry the newly crowned Emperor of Angletonia. But will it all work out knowing that he already had a son?
Genre: Romance, Drama, Fantasy, Historical
Notes : Set around the 1930s in an AU. This is good for those who loves the Game of Thrones-esque power-game royal drama.
Another soap from John Knight Ltd; Hustler Soap, mid-1930s. A rather ragged pack but one with so many interesting socio-historical layers! As a ‘pale’ household soap (the type most often marketed for laundry), the labour saving and efficiency of the product are primary messages on the pack. However, the more extraordinary aspects of this soap are the offers of gifts etc in exchange for coupons collected from Knight’s soap packets (including Family Health soap which I featured this week). Wrapping the double bar inside is a leaflet detailing the kitchenalia available, however there is also an invitation to write for the a full catalogue of offers! The offers are perhaps not as wonderful as they first seem however; a colander is advertised for 40 coupons. One pack of this soap cost -/4½ in 1939, so to save up enough coupons to buy a colander, you would have had to have spent £9-0-0, or £592 in 2020!

Went for a lovely day out with my parents to Ferry Meadows the other day. It was VERY cold but it was so pretty! I can't wait till summer so I can enjoy it more.
I also finally stepped up to actually using a proper camera so hopefully you can tell a difference haha 😂
Mildred with Cary Grant at the Gillmore Stadium, Fairfax Avenue, Los Angeles, 1944.
Mildred had been friends with Cary since 1932, the year both made their film debuts. They’d meet at parties and she’d be invited to the Malibu beach house he shared with Hollywood actor and hunk Randolph Scott.
“I tell ya Orstin, Cary and Randy were real cosy”.
By her own admission, Hollywood wasn’t about to accept a leading man who had been documented by a photographer bare-chested and in domestic pose with his flat mate.
It was Mildred who claimed she introduced Cary to actress Virginia Cherrill. Scott who’d always been luke-warm towards Mildred, liked her a lot less when in 1934 Cary and Cherrill married. When that ended the duo re-united.
Because of Randy’s dislike of Mildred, she and Cary became less friendly. Only to become close again during the time he was publicizing his role in the screwball comedy "His Girl Friday" (1940), in which Cary played newspaper editor Walter Burns and Rosalind Russell, as his newly engaged ace reporter ex-wife Hildy Johnson. The result was farcical.
Mildred was always certain Cary wanted her on the picture. After-all as she told it Groucho Marx had begged Mildred to be the foil to him and his fellow Marx Brothers, believing Mildred a born comedienne. She was disappointed that her old friend failed to even suggest Mildred for the role of Hildy.
“Cary could have done that for me,” she said. “I wish he had”.

" Go rescue some travelers, or slay some monsters, or slay some travelers. The details aren’t important." -- Reaver, Fable 2 ( Reaver is basically my favorite character in the Fable series. Which makes sence because he pretty neatly fits into the "affably evil" trope, and I pretty much always love those kinds of characters. ❤❤😄 And although everyone seems to love Fable 1/ Anniversary the most, 2 is my very favorite. *
Wearing a modern dress with flutter sleeves that feels very 1930s. The cut of the dress is straight, so I never wear it without a belt or a fitted, long skirt over it.
The necklace that I'm wearing is vintage, sterling silver camphor glass with a rhinestone at the center from the 1920s/1930s. I beleive it is rhodium plated. *
✨✨Camphor glass was first created as mourning jewelry in the 1880s. Its lack of color was considered appropriate for a mourning woman. Furthermore, white or clear jewlery was often worn to mark the loss of a young, unmarried woman or child. Eventually, it was also marketed as a cheaper replacement for semi-precious stones. The term “camphor glass” comes from its frosted look. which is achieved by treating the glass with vaporized hydrofluoric acid. The production of camphor glass jewelry came to a peak in the 1920s and 1930s, which is why many people view it as Art Nouveau and Art Deco style jewelry. ✨✨ *
The rear of the house after restoration. We removed all the original render and woodwork. We could see where wood details had been removed by past owners so were able to replace these. We used a local builders who were experienced in restoration and were able to provide the craftsmen to do the carpentry and render using traditional techniques as close to the original as possible. We used a woodturner to create bespoke roof finials #architecture#design#restoration#1930s#1930shouse#artdeco#mocktudor
