Sikkism is home to three different tribes "The Lepchas", "The Bhutias" from bhutan and "The Tasongs, hailing from Nepal. The three races coexist and the muted harmonious colors of the Lepchas can be seen along with the gay skills of the Bhutias and the heavy ornaments of Tasongs.
Of all the Tribes in Sikkim Lepcha community is the well known for its handloom tradition. The Lapcha weave, locally known as "Thara" are woven on back strap loin loom and thus, results in a short fabric width.
The Lapcha fabric is used for traditional garments as well as shoulder bags, napkins, cushion covers, table mats and more. While the basic fabric is cotton and wool is used for the motifs that are woven onto this textile.
Day as a nomad~ been watching this boy tshetub and his horses, bonding and him feeding rice. Brave boy tshetub he is 19, very strong and incredibly skillful. Pretty impressed by his work and I'm his other nomad ashim (sister) hope we meet again and heartfelt thanks to his horses.

The GNH Centre Bhutan in taking its work on wellbeing and happiness forward is in the process of designing a transformative youth programme. As part of this effort, in collaboration with the Rites of Passage Institute, Australia, discussions were held with various relevant CSO's ,Government stakeholders and schools.
A one day session on orientation to the Rites of Passage framework was held on 18 September 2019 and led by the Founder and CEO Dr Arne Rubinstein. This was followed by a visit to the Yangchenphu High School, where students were introduced to the Rites of Passage Framework. On 20 September 2019 Dr. Arne will give a public talk in the capital. It will be an open event.
