Check out @ved.nathwani awesome blog! He recently interviewed Samuel Smolkin on The Exploratory Journey. It profiles "creators, innovators & dream-makers" to help people who are exploring careers (a lot of #law and #legaltech there currently).
Sam delves into what he's doing today with us, as well as what he used to do at Kirkland & Ellis, and his journey between. Check it out if you're interested and thanks to Ved for having Sam along!
Are you familiar with names like Rockefeller, Franklin,
JP Morgan, Vanderbilt, Carnegie, Edison, Ford, Crock, Wrigley, Walton, DuPont, Koch and the like. These last names are in the history books and they’ve changed the course of their families forever.
Why is this of interest to us? We’ll because of what these incredible men did with their lives. In studying their bio’s we learn that most of them created their fortunes themselves, they built it from scratch. Started at the bottom, lots of sweat equity, tremendous amount of hard work, and each of them had a vision greater than the average man. They did what most won’t!
Most of us don’t know who our great-great grandfathers were. We haven’t even inquired. Without offending anyone, the reason we don’t know about them is because they didn’t do anything great. I mean like they didn’t build anything BIG that stood the test of time...it’s a huge task to do so!
My aspirations in life are to do so, to build a LEGACY that’ll be remembered for generations to come. Many years into the future, all of us will be a memory. Some with great stories attached, lots of pictures that describe the life that was lived. A huge portrait on a wall that will be a great conversation piece for those who tell your story.
A great man leaves a legacy for his children’s children! I heard that one day at a business meeting and it hit me like a ton of bricks!!! Wow, what a concept. .
What’s your take on this? How do you wanna be remembered.

ɴᴜᴇᴠᴀ ɴᴏʀᴍᴀʟɪᴅᴀᴅ ✨
