With the arrival of fall weather comes the true violet flowers (tiny green flowers which hide under the foliage). I’m starting to see sweet violet seeds, which is exciting. I often find the true flowers but then the seeds have formed and scattered before I can get a good look at them. These little black pearls, which almost look like three little corn cobs to me, will hopefully create lots of new little violets. Their medicine is very welcome here, where we are slowly and happily seeing the grass replaced with violets, yarrow, creeping Charlie, dandelions, plantain, chickweed, wood sorrel and mint. You should see my lawn in the springtime! It is an incredible array of flowers seldom seen in our heavily sprayed and manicured society, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s a wonderful feeling having a fully stocked apothecary just outside your door. Another name for violet is heartsease. It certainly puts my heart and soul at ease seeing her outside my doorstep.
Do you have any stories to share about violet? #lulalinden#whole_heartedapothecary
Viola tricolor, also known as Johnny Jump Up or Heartsease, was traditionally used in folk medicine for a range of ailments, and is great for attracting beneficial insects. The flowers are edible, adding a splash of colour to your salad. #viola#violatricolor
Action shot. Cutting out loads of these things for a new thing I’m making that’s really really cool. These ornaments (that will OF COURSE be gilded) are “Heartsease” (heart’s-ease) flowers in the Pre-Raphaelite style. This symbol means what it sounds like and was used by Shakespeare in Hamlet & Midsummer Night’s Dream, as a symbol of thought and to magically inspire love via a complicated process involving plant juice & eyelids. It’s one of those cool old words like wolfsbane & liverwort. It’s ease my mind & steady my heart. My works are largely composed of symbols & signifiers: one picture, a thousand words etc. They express possibilities, possible connections, creating skeletons of possible narratives about how to be, to think on the old conundrum: how has what happened, happened? I’m thinking this when cutting up large bits of MDF into smaller bits of MDF. It’s when I’m working that I find my spiritual connection 🔄 #rosieperl#cuttingupmdf#scrollsaw#heartsease#preraphaelite#symbol#signifier#ornament

Woke up with another headache - been in and out of this migraine since Monday. Mood still good though! Took meds, and met a beauuutiful friend for lunch 🥰 Casual sober lunch eh, who knew! I used to be very adept at making every social occasion one I could drink acceptably at. Less of the coffee, more of the wine! Today I sipped pink lemonade, ate a burger, and chatted about all of this juicy stuff that’s happening, perfectly comfortable 💕
After getting home the migraine took over somewhat and between the to do list I went back to bed, making pockets of time to pause. Not the easiest thing to do with both Eva AND Dennis charging around the house 😂 I think it affected my mood too as out of nowhere it plummeted and I felt irritable, restless and tired.
I started worrying about the fertility stuff - I’m so lucky that mostly, day to day it really is in the background, popping up occasionally, but the past week it’s been very present🤷♀️ I just don’t feel hopeful. I kept this in mind and pulled a card - the Nine of Wands. The heading for this in Beyond The Little White Book by @lizworthtarot is - don’t give up! 😭💜 These cards, they’ll get ya!
I took Eva out into the sunny fields, then sipped nettle, mugwort, mint and hawthorn on the balcony. Suddenly I remembered the flower essences I made on Monday. Wild pansy for self love and tenderness. I took a few drops not thinking ANYTHING was going to happen- my sense of magic from the other day gone. But in minutes I felt a warm sensation around my heart, and the tension melted away, replaced with compassion, comfort and peace.
I. Was. SPEECHLESS! Making medicine then having it actually work is the most wonderful feeling, and so reassuring to let go, knowing I’m held not just by people, but by plants and the land too. 🌸✨🌷 Cariad mawr 🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜
As expected day 252 and Cycle day 1 was peaceful. I woke with a huge headache but that was ok! I think sometimes that’s my body’s way of saying slow the fuck down please! You are allowed to rest in your Youness and let that be your “work” for the day. I had a slow start before my first ever tarot reading with @blindlovetarot which was AMAZING. It confirmed and illuminated things I’d been wondering about and bought in new, practical tools to play with.
Pausing is a big theme for me at the moment. Waiting in the not knowing. The deep healing. Not knowing stresses me out. I can cling on to labels, desperate for “direction” and see how this is linked to my patterns, and to what capitalism teaches me. That I have no worth if I’m not a “something”. The cards encouraged me to see I have worth anyway, and to float, wait, and trust.
It was a tender, loving, anti hustle reading which I LOVED. Because even if it’s not for money I’m often on the hustle- for security, self worth, answers, peace. This was a poignant reminder that I don’t have to do that. I can just stop. And say I don’t know. This affected me so much I’ve changed my bio. Anna also pulled the Strength card, which actually made me cry 😭🙈 I don’t stop and give myself credit for my strength. That I keep on trying to heal.
I wandered around the garden after our call, and as the sun shone down on me I had a strong urge to make my first flower essence. Inspired by the 4 of pentacles I made a body boundary essence with nasturtium, pure self love and tenderness with wild pansy, and a tiny amount of St Johns Wort to sustain inner sun as the seasons change. The intentions, heat, blooms, cards, and light shining through the crystal were so delightful, beautiful and pleasurable! Aha I thought. This, is magic. ✨🌸🌞💜🌼🌸✨

Wild pansy, a. k. a. Heartsease, (Viola tricolor ssp. tricolor) usually is three coloured, with the upper petals being deep violet, the middle petals being yellow white or light purple and the bottom petals being white with a bright yellow point the base. However, single colour variants also occurs, ranging from white to violet in colour. #wildpansy#heartsease#violatricolor#styvmorsviol
When violets make teal...the magic of herbs infused in water! Every time I make violet syrup - 'tis the season for it, so if you're wanting to DIY your own violet concoction this year, now's the time - I get a slightly different hue of purple to pink to blue to green. Exact color depends on violet species, time of harvest, extraction method, time, and temperature, and a whole lovely variety of other factors.
This particular batch turned into a honey syrup for herbal cocktails. Some of our violet medicine goes into our Wild Cherry Bark Syrup (a soothing, mucilaginous respiratory aid). Some goes into our simple Violet Extract. This year, some will be going into our beloved Breast Massage Oil.

Wild Pansy (Viola tricolor) as Crackweed 8
The Pansy infestation featured back in May in #weedalogue0321 is still hanging on. It is just this one plant left. Someone posted a picture of a Wild Pansy on Instagram and said it looked mean. I had always thought they looked happy, but ever since then, I have never been able to see them the same way. They look like little mean faces to me now, like little thugs.
