Happy Valentine’s Day! We were able to sneak a quick hike in this afternoon. I wish we could have gone farther, but I’m thankful that we got to hike at all. The park was very busy today, but I viewed it as a training opportunity for Bella. She’s still getting over the stress of seeing and passing strangers, but she did wonderful! We had no issues at all. I’m very proud of her! It helps that I know the unmarked/less traveled trails 😉 The slightly visible mountains in the back of this picture are my favorite. I think they’re so beautiful! Getting to look at them while going down the trail is the best. I hope y’all had a great Friday & Valentine’s!

My very dear friend left me the best comment in which he said that I "look very happy and at peace." In truth, this is the worst, most tumultuous time in my life and I mostly just wish my life was over (which I balance with my intense fear of reincarnation). But also in truth, I am never happier or more at peace than when I'm #hiking , which I could never articulate since I accidentally fell in love with the #hobby a few years ago. Then I realized it was because during those few hours #outside , I wasn't thinking...about anything. And I didn't even have to try, or tell myself, "ok, no thinking!" And it wasn't like I emerged from the #woods with some new-found clarity or insight. It just felt like my brain had had a nap, and that when I did emerge from the #forest , it was like my brain was well-rested, and thinking about #life and what comes next didn't feel so heavy. And, yes, it is empowering to think, if even for a moment, that - fuck! - if I can make it up this #mountain with just my arms and legs, why do I think I can't tackle life? 😊 @hiker_babes #journeyto100andbeyond 30/💯: ✔! 💪
What are some adventures you’re looking forward to this year? Let’s talk about them! 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

Potato Chip Rock, I just kept hearing your name. I finally had to have the pleasure of making your acquaintance and today was the day. Quite the cheeky seven miler you were but who doesn’t love racy, relentless incline and breathtaking views... That said, you don’t have to be the best, the fastest, the smartest or the strongest in your endeavors; You do, however, owe it to yourself to persevere with humility & faith regardless of how steep the incline or how strenuous the journey (literally & metaphorically). If it’s a labour of love, you will prevail. Your love will be one that moves mountains.
With all my 💕
This scrawny asian girl with chicken legs who loves the mountains with all her heart.
P.S. That leap from boulder to Potato Chip Rock was extremely humbling.

I’m really excited to be doing the full KT, this year! It’s Indiana’s long trail. So far, I’ve only been able to do some day hiking. On this section, I parked on Bear Creek Road at Bear Wallow Trail. There is parking for ~8 cars. I couldn’t find info about this thru research so it was a hope🤞🏼there would be parking here. There was.🥳I hiked in via the Forest Road, to Tecumseh and back to the Low Gap Connector, where I finished last time (1.4m). Turned around and completed 4️⃣.3️⃣miles of the Knobstone (via Tecumseh) until I reached Richards Road, and hauled 3.2m of a road walk back to my zoom zoom. 💪🏼🥾🎒
All in all, I was able to hike 8.9 miles today. 😲 So the KT will also be a huge help in checking off 2️⃣ other goals for this year. First, w/ @hiker_babes Adventure Series (sign up til 3/15)!🎒🥾👱🏼♀️One of the activities is to log 365 miles - 1m for each day of the year! There are other side challenges as well, such as visiting a state & national park, sunrise hike, clean up hike & others! I’m also signed up to hike 500m with @theultimatehikingchallenge 🤩. I’m really excited to hike loooonger hikes this year! 💪🏼 .
Are any of you section or thru hiking this year? Where? Let’s talk about your goals below!👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

📢 PSA: Your dog’s 💩 is heavy, it stinks. When left on the trail (bagged or not!), it GOES INTO OUR DRINKING WATER &&& other animals (birds pictured) EAT IT! .
That’s NOT 👏🏼 OK 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. To be frank, it’s incredibly SAD that over HALF of my trash picked up on this day was DOG POOP. Grab your poop bags, & have Fido pack his/her 💩 out (literally)! Please?! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Not only will I thank you for it, so will all the other animals &&& did I mention, it seeps into our DRINKING WATER? Reason 18,463,817,362 why I won’t drink tap water in Indiana. 🤣
Also, plastic is not biodegradable & your bags that ARE biodegradable will break down faster than the 💩. So leaving them along the trail is messy. 🤮 Be a steward, ESPECIALLY to our community parks! ALWAYS take your @11thessential (an extra bag/container for trash), && I urge you to LEAVE IT BETTER! You’ll get extra karma points & all the feels! 🥰🥰🥰
What do you use as your #11thessential ? I’m looking for ideas to swap out my plastic trash bags into reusable, but on big hauls, logistically, these work best. (I do recycle my single use plastic bags at the grocery! ♻️)👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

“Fort Harrison is a state park for many seasons for many reasons. Patrons may enjoy visiting the park year round, especially in winter since Fort Harrison features 1 of the biggest sledding hills in the area. Spring is the season to walk w/ the woodland wildflowers in full bloom across the park. Summer is the perfect time for a canoe trip down Fall Creek, the major water feature that runs through the north side of Fort Harrison. Autumn brings warm, sunny days & breathtaking fall colors to this, the last forested corner left in Marion County.” @indianadnr@visitindiana@visitindy@friendsoffortharrisonsp .
February has had some AMAZING days to get out! This was one of them!!🥳 Grabbed my @11thessential & hit the trails to do a little stewardship!🤩 Our State Park system did away with trash cans several years ago, but why?1️⃣Unsightly. No one wants to see overflowing🗑cans😵2️⃣ They attract nuisance animals-from 🐝to🦝4️⃣ SMELL😷4️⃣ They cost money & that money can now go to things such as trail maintenance, facilities, park programs, etc.💰 .
Which brings me to money.💸💸Don’t be a hack; pay your gate fees!🤣Even better, buy an Annual Entrance Permit! (DM me w/questions!) Indiana State Parks rely on YOU!!✊🏼”When you visit & pay for gate entrance, lodging & other activities. All user fees go to dedicated accounts that support the operation of these properties. Approx. 70% of the operating costs at Indiana State Parks are generated thru user fees. Your tax dollars (~$1.39 per Hoosier annually) contribute the other 30% - @Indianadnr .
Every Hoosier has a park within an HOUR’S DRIVE 🚗 of them!! 😲 Which one is yours?! 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
Bella and I got to go on the hike that I had planned for Friday today instead! It turned out being one of the most beautiful days we’ve had so far this year, making for a perfect hike. Lots of other people were out, too, which I had figured would be the case. With every person and dog we passed, Bella did absolutely phenomenal. Someone even commented on her harness that says “gangster” too. 😂 I I stopped halfway through the hike to enjoy the breeze while Bella chewed on any stick she could find. The place behind us is my favorite spot on this particular hike. It’s a tree that has fallen, but it’s so beautiful. I just wish the picture could show how truly beautiful it is, but it’s hard getting the good angles when I’m using self timer 🤪 I’m so glad we got to get out today! We both needed it!

“Harmonie State Park is located "on the banks of the Wabash" 25 miles northwest of Evansville. A beautiful swimming pool, shady picnic areas, ravines and pristine landscape await you here. This is a trail lover's paradise! Trails for walking, biking and nature hikes will lure you for a visit.” @indianadnr@visitindiana .
I wish I would have had more time to explore! Trail 4 was a nice experience. I will definitely revisit other trails (some were under construction during my visit) the next time @lanny4224 and I visit Evansville! .

Has a dream been infused within you that seems far beyond your reach? A dream you know that in yourself you cannot achieve such a goal? While it may seem impossible, it can be the beginning to your journey of profound reliance on God. I have a LIST of fears cycling through my head as I prepare for my upcoming thru-hike this March, but I know and trust this trek to be a faith-walk. Literally. I will have to lean on God one step at a time for 800 miles. It won’t be a path of continual success, but of multiple failures- I know I won’t hit my mileage goals each and every day, but like any other failure, it will be followed by a growth spurt, nourished by increased reliance on God. That’s the dream infused within me: the more extreme my circumstances, the more likely I am to see His power at work.
Keep your eyes and your mind open to all that He is doing; all the seemingly impossible dreams He is infusing in your life. 💫
