Here‘s an early easter egg. If you can find me in the photo you get a free drink, when you visit my homebar. But back to business! Sunny days like this make me feel like beeing on a sailboat, enjoying the sun, smelling the salt and feeling the tickeling windy breeze on my face. I tried to unite all these experiences in one drink.

Laphroaig fans are by now no stranger to its limited edition Cairdeas bottlings, which are released each year as part of Islay’s Fèis Ìle celebrations.
This year’s limited release is a cask strength version of its popular Triple Wood release, a whisky which is first matured in ex-bourbon barrels, then moves to smaller quarter casks, and finally is finished in European oak casks that previously held oloroso sherry. The big twist is while the standard Triple Wood hits 96 proof, this one tips the scales at 119 proof, nearly 60% abv. Follow the link in our profile for the review! 🥃
Laphroaig The 1815 Legacy Edition was created by Distillery Manager John Campbell in honour of the members of the Laphroaig team that have been producing the much-adored whisky on Islay over the years. This expression features whisky aged in first-fill bourbon barrels and new European oak hogsheads.
Nose: Cinnamon-spiced apricots, marmalade, heavy layers of toasty peat.
Palate: Dry smoke, woodspices (clove, nutmeg and ginger), Brown sugar and caramel, a hint of raisin.
Day 2 of whisky production week! Here I am inside the malting kiln at @bowmore !
You want the barley to dry and start to germinate when making whisky, but not to go too far! Otherwise you’ll just end up with barley plants everywhere in your distillery and you’ll have an indoor farm!
So how do you stop the process? Heat! Nowadays there are 2 ways of doing this - hot air or peat smoke. Hopefully from the air and the fact I’m on Islay means you can work out which method Bowmore uses! The air or smoke will react with the cereal to stop the germination process and allow the barley to go into the mashing process.
I’ll be back tomorrow to tell you more about peat!
WEE HEAVY LAPHROAIG WHISKY BARREL AGED @browar_maryensztadt
Technically, I cannot say anything wrong about this beer. It carries all the characteristics of wee heavy style, including malty sweetness. Barrel aging came out amazing. The beer smells and tastes like a whole pile of burning tires. To say its peated is an understatement.
Don't laugh, this is exactly like Laphroaig whiskey is supposed to smell.
So, in fact, an amazing combination of style and barrel aging.
From my personal perspective, the beer was disgusting, the sweet-smoke combo is unbearable and the beer ended in the sink.
Enjoying the snow (yes snow!) in Lake Tahoe by stepping indoors at #TenCrowsBBQ and trying out some whiskies I've never had before. @westlandwhiskey is an American Single Malt. While it does have some young characteristics, it is a nice dram that warmed me right up. -
Thanks for hosting my tasting #tahoesouth_partner#sponsorship and thanks for the first taste of skiing weather! 🥃🏂🎿🚡

Islay festival - feis ile.
Lagavulin 19 year old my winner, closely followed by Caol Ila 22 year old. Should also mention the Port Charlotte 14 year old, independently bottled by Dramfool, which was a pleasant surprise.
