The rule of nines assesses the percentage of burn and is used to help guide treatment decisions including fluid resuscitation and becomes part of the guidelines to determine transfer to a burn unit. You can estimate the body surface area on an adult that has been burned by using multiples of 9. . .

Oh my goodness, observing passover with family 2018. ❤❤❤ I am preparing tonight for something I would never have thought. Tomorrow I am recording both palm Sunday and Easter Sunday kids messages. I miss the kids and think of them often. Some might be oblivious to what is going on, but most have a level of uncertainty or fear. I miss seeing their smiles, hearing about their week, or getting a hung. I miss the moments of their stories where I have no clue what's going on, or the moments they struggle to talk and just need a hug. I miss sharing the gospel in person where I can look them in the eye, or respond to a question when they don't quite understand. I miss my family.
I am preparing tonight for something I would never have thought. I pray that through my humanity and despite my flaws, that God will use us tomorrow in a big way. Maybe even reach someone who would have never stepped into a church building.
If you don't have a church to tune into the next few Sundays checkout @lifepointwaldorf links. Service @ 10am #family #palmsunday#easter#church#socialdistancing#teaching#lifepointchurch#waldorf#md#joy

👩🏻⚕️👨🏿⚕️🧑🏽⚕️Happy Doctor's Day!🧑🏻⚕️👩🏿⚕️👩🏼⚕️
Typically, this day passes each year with little recognition. Its certainly not a major holiday, and no, we don't request celebration or praise. But this year I think a few more people will acknowledge it given the current global situation.
I think that most people have this mentality that physicians are well-compensated, have easy lifestyles, and don't need to be recognized. And while instagram and television may highlight our lives as glamorous, let's remember that just like everything else we see on social media, its just that--the highlights. What we don't often see is what we are witnessing now--the reality of being a physician and the toll it takes on many of us. .
We have given up our youth to train and learn how to practice.
Many of us have postponed having families, missed major life events, and put other life goals on hold.
Those of us with families often struggle to figure out how to do both.
Many of us have uprooted our homes several times for training.
Divorce rates are high among doctors.
The physician suicide rate is more than double that of the general public.
Psychological stress is just part of the career as we lose patients and have inevitable failures.
Working 80+ hour weeks is often the norm. .
I am not asking for praise or gratitude. What I am asking is that you acknowledge our current requests for #socialdistancing and understand that we are in this demanding career for the well being of humanity--not for the acknowledgment, glamour, money, status, etc. There's a lot more to being a doctor than what meets the eye. .
Today, I would usually ask that you hug a doctor, but a simple "thanks" is just as good ✌🏻
🏥Thank you for being you and doing awesome work to all of my amazing colleagues! 👩🏼⚕️👩🏾⚕️🧑🏼⚕️👨🏿⚕️👩🏻⚕️🧑🏽⚕️👨🏽⚕️
What is the hardest part of being a doctor? For each doctor it is different. May be life in medical school, sleepless nights, fear to make a mistake, long years of school and residency, not participate in family activities, sacrifices, stress from codes or unstable patients...For me it is a pain of my patients. No, not a physical one. For a physical pain I have tools in my bag. Morphine, dilaudid, lortab, trigger injections, steroids, physical therapy...But pain from patient’s daily problems. As family medicine doctor I am helping not just with medical but with social problems as well. It is painful to hear from 16 yo girl that she is not able to finish school, go to collage, that she is trying to work...that her mom sent her to psychiatry unite in the hospital, hoping that she would be prescribed meds, which mother will sell for methamphetamine later..(like she sells ADHD meds of her younger sister) That people with disability can’t come to see a doctor as they don’t have transportation. Knowing that kids were physically, emotionally and sexually abused. To know that people don’t have insurance to see a neurologist after brain bleeding at the age of 32 or they need to wait for a long time. My soul is crying and hurting for every human with alcohol disorder or drug abuse. People are making a bad choices but being born in poverty doesn’t give you many chances to become wealthy. I feel pain for my pregnant refugee patient with 2 kids, which lost her job and her husband can’t get visa in Africa to come for delivery. I am trying to leave all this thoughts at work, but sometimes I come home and continue to think if I did everything what I could for those people who were not as lucky as I am. I saw both sides of life - when you sell glass bottles to buy a bread and when you flying to Disney world for a week.. #futuredoctor#familymedicine#resident#residentlife#usmle#whitecoat#physician#futurephysician#medicalstudent#medicine#md#step1done#usmleprep#usmlestep1#usmlestep2#medicalstudent#match2018#medicalstudentlife#goal#motivation#motivated#changeyourlife#dreamscometrue#workhard#beliveinyourself#dream#usmlestep3#youcandoit#youcanachieveit

Shouting out under appreciated healthcare heroes: Lysa Auguste, Miami’s newest OBGYN resident
“As a child St. Lucia always seemed perfect to me in every aspect. However, as I got older, I realized there were imperfections in my country’s healthcare system. Too many mundane factors influenced the quality of care that citizens received. This ignited my dream of being a physician. As I grew older, I developed a passion for women’s health. Now I’m moving closer to my dream of educating women about their bodies and advocating on their behalf for access and equality. Looking forward, I hope to make a difference in underserved communities and eventually return home, to St Lucia and serve the women of my island. “ 🇱🇨💙💛 @elle.vee.ayee .
