I am 60.5 and truly realized that life really is precious and is getting shorter. I am more passionate about being in the moment, enjoying life to the last second. I don't spend time drowning in the past or obsessing about my future. I am just grateful for each day God is giving me and looking forward to enjoying every moment he is going to provide me. @flyageless #sassyatsixty #mysimplelife #lifesimplepleasures

This is the first year that I've stepped out of my comfort zone and joined the local homeschool co-op. I'm not sure who was more nervous, my boys or I! But 1 semester in, and we all agree that it's our favorite day of the week! We have all made awesome new friendships and strengthened old ones. Tonight was the Christmas program, and Lincoln sang in it. I'm so thankful to be a part of such a wonderful community!! Also, the beautiful sunset was on the way to the program!
LIVING WITH LESS IS NOT ABOUT DEPRIVATION ⠀
It's about living a life that you love instead of just going through the motions. ⠀
It's more than getting rid of clutter, but the stress and negativity that goes along with it. ⠀
Yes, crappy things happen that can be stressful but that shouldn't be the norm. ⠀
It should be about doing work and hobbies you love, spending time with loved ones, making decisions based on quality, and living a meaningful life. ⠀
What are you priorities? What do you love? Who do you want to spend more time with? What experiences do you want to go on? ⠀
Just some things to consider as you contemplate simplifying your life. ❤⠀

I spent the last months experimenting with a plethora of scents (and having an inappropriate amount of fun with the label maker). Not only attempting to capture a very specific feeling in an amber jar but also discovering how different — and often unlikely — combinations are able to create new feelings. So much fun and fascinating #累 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am the only one responsible for creating the life that I want.
What life do you want to create for yourself? What is stopping you from living that life? Let me know in the comments!
I still have a couple of spots open for January for 1:1 coaching. If you want to bust through your limiting beliefs and make real progress towards your goals and the life you want to live, send me a message or sign up for your free clarity call via the link in my bio!
This is still one of my personal favorites!! Of course as designers we ❤️all of our projects! (Right??) Sometimes we just want to pick it up and put it in our own home because we love it so much! If you’ve never thought that then I’m impressed, but if you have then I know I’m not alone!! Happy almost the weekend!!

Part Two of my blog on When Christmas Makes You Want To Weep..
Are you facing a difficult Christmas this year? You are not alone friend.
1. Keep it simple!
I talk about simplifying things here on the blog A LOT. And Christmas is no exception.
Forget what you see displayed in glossy advertising flyers or on flashy television commercials, the simpler your Christmas, the more you will enjoy the lead-up and actual day.
2. Find out what makes you happy.
What makes you happy will be totally different to what makes me happy. It took me a while to figure it out but now I have, Christmas doesn’t feel overwhelming or something to not look forward to.
For you, it might be spending the day watching tv with a special friend, going for a bike-ride or walk, having a picnic or a big dinner around the family table.
3. Don’t get into debt.
Oh my goodness, this one makes me so sad, because the amount of families that find themselves in debt after Christmas is phenomenal.
Christmas is all about a celebration. Spending time with loved ones and being grateful for all we have.
It’s not about being in the red come January the 1st.
I can guarantee that your children won’t remember what you bought them for Christmas last year but they will remember what you did, what was said and the fun you had together.

~Extract from a quote by Morgan Harper Nichols~ “Friends, I hope you know it’s ok if your strength looks a little different in this season.
I hope you know that the fire inside of you is still there. Even if it burns quietly and gently, as candles do on windowsills.
I hope you know it’s ok to not feel the same as everyone else.
I hope you know that even in the rush of it all, there is time and grace to heal.
There is time to take your time, seeking peace and quiet beyond your understanding. Even if you feel you have a long way to go.
Breath after breath, depth into depth, the steps you take not only matter but they reveal the quiet strength that has been in you all along – and has been growing ever since.
I hope you know how perfectly and wonderfully you are made and the fact that you are YOU is a magnificent gift in itself”
And remember, whatever it is that makes you happy, do it well!

I’ve never really introduced myself and our family to you, and it feels over due. I am Melinda, the shy girl behind @hawkes.landing .
My husband David and I have six kids.
David and I met in college. I earned a degree in Psychology. He studied mechanical engineering and then business administration. David now owns and operates a medical device company that designs and develops instruments and implants for spine surgery. He is also an avid outdoorsman.
I feel blessed to be able to focus on homemaking full time.
I grew up in tiny Bennington, Idaho (population approx. 300) where I developed a great love for the outdoors. I am happy to now call Utah home. Our family spends a lot of time hiking, camping, fishing, and exploring this #beutahful state. We also love visiting new places and learning about other cultures.
Our kids range in age from 8 to 20. Our oldest two have moved away to attend college. Our younger four keep us very busy with basketball, volleyball, football, swimming, dancing, piano, and guitar.
I love to create things, and I strive to find beauty in the little details. I have a desire to nurture and find that it can be fulfilling to work at making our nest comfortable and pretty. Other hobbies include exercising, gardening, reading, cooking, and sewing.
We are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where we strive to focus on family and serving those around us.
I have always been a little uncomfortable because I’m quite reserved and I don’t like the focus to be on me. But getting out of my comfort zone in safe ways makes me grow, so I endeavor to do some of that each day. Instagram helps. It sometimes feels a little one sided. I would like to learn more about each one of you.
I love meeting new people through this app and IG has been such a wonderfully supportive community. I feel so blessed that you would want to follow along to see these little moments of our lives. .
