Welcome to Death Valley💀

Today I officially adopted Marley.
I met Marley the day I came back to work after everything that happened with Angel and Atticus. I stayed at work 1/2 the day (that’s all I could do) and spent most of it in her kennel. She was so small and skinny it broke my heart. I went home, and all I could think about was Marley. It was a nice break from the grief, guilt, and pain I was feeling. The next day I brought her to my desk at work and she curled up on my lap, I told our foster coordinator in that moment I knew I was fostering her and took her home
When we got home she used the cats litter boxes to pee and poop, lived on tables, slept SO much, and was hardly a dog. Now she’s doubled in size, has the most hilarious personality, and has been the only light in my life these past two months. So many people have told me Angel sent me her, and I really think she did. Angel would not want me in pain, and she sent me Marley so I could heal and not let my depression consume me. I am in no way over what happened a few months ago, but having Marley by my side has helped me live. She has helped me not give up. She has kept me out of the dark place. And now she’s home forever. Welcome home Marls Barkley🖤 (check out our stories for progress photos later today)

There are many approaches one can take to shooting the landscape draped in ground fog. For example, color or black and white. Another is wide or long and this morning overlooking Townsend, TN, I went with long. That's because I wanted to bring the calm beauty of the wrapping ground fog up close and personal. The @NikonUSA#nikonZ7 / #nikkor180 -400VR made it real simple shooting at times at 180mm and then 560mm and anything in between. And each time I saw a new detail, graphic, in the viewfinder I would decide to go either B&W or color. It was the perfect start to the weekend!

This is one of the more successful spiders this season from our retaining wall, having gotten the slot between two bricks directly beneath our light pole. Each morning I would check the web to see if it was freshly touched up to make sure that he was still alive and well, and each time I checked in on him in the evening he seemed to be bigger and stronger.
Every inch of Iceland is a photographers dream! Join me on an epic photography workshop June 15-21 2020. We will visit some of the countries most iconic locations, experience the midnight sun and cover all things photography. Link in bio for details and booking.

Today is mental health day, a day to recognize a pretty serious illness that plagues so, so many people. It’s no secret that I’ve struggled over the years with depression and anxiety, especially during the infancy of my business and leaving the security of my engineering career. I still battle with long bouts of both but am learning to avoid certain things and finding my way out of them is becoming easier each time they strike. I think if you looked at my work in order of release in the last couple of years you’d be able to almost map my emotions out I bet. Illustrating the highs and lows.
I think this image symbolizes my emotions during its capture pretty well. Standing alongside my young friend @morgan.tuohy I was anxious, nervous, excited and proud all at once, knowing he looks up to me, wanting to make him proud, standing on the edge of a busy road and also because he’s so damn talented. This image, an aspen catching a bit of spot lighting from the last of the sunset, like a little ray of joy into a wary old soul, chock full of shaded colors, just waiting for their moment in the sun too. Thanks for the killer week guys! Off for a little more color hunting in Maine! #mentalhealthawareness
