Growing up in Norway during the 80s and 90s, I have early memories of something big having happened here. I was three years old at the time of the disaster.
The nearby city of Pripyat, purpose built in 1970 to house the workers of the power station, was evacuated a few days after reactor 4 on the Chernobyl power station exploded. It’s hard to explain the eerie feeling of walking around in a city that was left in a hurry more than 30 years ago, and which nature is now slowly taking back.
Even after extensive cleaning the area has a higher level of radiation than normal. It’s less than you’ll experience on an airline flight though, so just walking around is completely safe. Sadly the ground is still contaminated and there are plenty of radio active hot spots, so it won’t be habitable again for a very very long time.

El 26/04/86 explotó el reactor 4 ya que los responsables en la central no siguieron las medidas de seguridad y el combustible de uranio del reactor se recalentó😕. ➡️¿A cuánta gente afectó?
En esa época la URSS escondía y negaba todo. De hecho tardó 36 horas en evacuar Prípiat, el pueblo de la central nuclear🤦🏽.
Oficialmente 2 trabajadores murieron por la explosión y otras 28 personas, entre bomberos y miembros de servicios de emergencia, lo hicieron durante la descontaminación de los primeros 3 meses por una radiación aguda. 🌧La lluvia radioactiva (400 veces superior a la radiactividad de la bomba de Hiroshima) expulsó a más de 300.000 personas de sus casas.
Cientos de científicos concluyeron que la radiación de Chernobyl pudo haber costado la vida de unas 4.000 personas en los primeros 20 años después de la tragedia. ➡️Puro cáncer y alteraciones😣
Una de las enfermedades más generalizadas entre la población de ese sector de Europa y que se atribuye al desastre nuclear es el cáncer de tiroides.
Poco después del accidente se documentaron hasta 1.800 casos entre niños de entre 0 y 14 años.
También se registraron cientos de alteraciones de ADN y deformaciones. ➡️¿Hasta dónde llegó la radiación?
150.000 kilómetros cuadrados entre Ucrania, Bielorrusia y Rusia se vieron directamente afectados. La zona de exclusión a la que accedí tiene un radio de 30 kilómetros alrededor de la planta.
Las partículas radiactivas alcanzaron a 13 países y a 5 millones de personas en toda Europa. ➡️¿Qué pudo ser peor?
El trabajo de miles de trabajadores fue clave para evitar una explosión mucho mayor días después. Si no hubieran dado su vida haciendo los trabajos de minería y enfriamiento, hoy la mitad de Europa sería un cráter gigante. 📺Una catástrofe de esa magnitud y la URSS recién 18 días después dio una versión sobre lo sucedido en TV.

I have waited around 3 years to be able to visit this place and see it with my own eyes. I’ve always wanted to get a feel for what happened here over 30 years ago. The emotion I felt on this tour was like no other, to see a whole city abandoned after a huge nuclear disaster was was something I will never forget. ![Von 1918 bis 1991 gehörte Tschornobyl zur Sowjetunion.
Am 26. April 1986 ereignete sich im Kernkraftwerk #Chernobyl nahe der Nachbarstadt #Pripyat ein Nuklearunfall. Prypjat ist deshalb heute eine Geisterstadt und bildet das Zentrum des genannten Sperrgebietes. #Tschornobyl liegt außerhalb des 10km Sperrgebiets. In der Stadt wurden viele Gebäude renoviert, die als Unterkünfte für die Arbeiter und Ingenieure des ehemaligen Kraftwerkparks Prypjat, Soldaten, Polizisten und Feuerwehrleute dienen. In der Stadt befindet sich auch ein Hotel. Im Umland und im Stadtgebiet von Tschornobyl leben heute rund ca 700 Menschen. (von einst 14.000), die entweder nach der Katastrophe die Region nicht verlassen haben oder später in ihre Dörfer zurückkehrten.
Seit 1991 gehört Tschornobyl zur unabhängigen #Ukraine.

Am 26. April 1986 ereignete sich im Kernkraftwerk #Chernobyl nahe der Nachbarstadt #Pripyat ein Nuklearunfall. Prypjat ist deshalb heute eine Geisterstadt und bildet das Zentrum des genannten Sperrgebietes. #Tschornobyl liegt außerhalb des 10km Sperrgebiets. In der Stadt wurden viele Gebäude renoviert, die als Unterkünfte für die Arbeiter und Ingenieure des ehemaligen Kraftwerkparks Prypjat, Soldaten, Polizisten und Feuerwehrleute dienen. In der Stadt befindet sich auch ein Hotel. Im Umland und im Stadtgebiet von Tschornobyl leben heute rund ca 700 Menschen. (von einst 14.000), die entweder nach der Katastrophe die Region nicht verlassen haben oder später in ihre Dörfer zurückkehrten.
Seit 1991 gehört Tschornobyl zur unabhängigen #Ukraine .

One of more radioactive areas in the City of Pripyat is the basement of Hospital No. 126. For those who saw the HBO series at the beginning of episode 2 you see the Nurse taking the firemen's clothing and dropping in a room in the basement. This is that room.
I first visited the basement in 2011 and over the years not a lot has changed, though some pieces of clothing have been removed (not very smart for the person to do that as they are very radioactive). In 2015 the managing authority of the zone sealed up the entrances to this area in the main hospital to limit people entering the area. In 2017 they sealed up a few more "less known" accesses. However, there is away to access the area from an adjacent building through a maze of underground corridors.
As you can see in the one image that background radiation is 115 mR/hr or about 1,150 microSv/hour or about 5,700 times higher than typical background radiation where I live in ATL. There is an area in that room where the readings are well over 2,000 microSv/hour or 10,000 times higher then typical background.

Моей давней мечтой было попасть в Чернобыль и непосредственно в Припять. Предложил друзьям, все согласились, посмотрели несколько сайтов с экскурсиями и заказали.

Найти экскурсию в ЧЗО не сложно. Большое количество контор этим занимается и ценник практически везде одинаковый.
Мы вязли однодневный тур, т.к. времени было мало. Стоимость тура 50$ (для украинцев, иностранцам - 100$). Везут из Киева и после окончания экскурсии привозят назад. Но нужно дней за 5 сделать бронь, внести предоплату и оставить свои паспортные данные для оформления пропуска.
Так же можно дополнительно заказать обед, арендовать дозиметр и прочее.

В сезон и выходные очень много людей. Мы поехали поздней осенью в надежде, что из-за холода будет меньше людей. Их было действительно меньше, примерно 400-500 человек, когда в сезон от 800 до 1500 человек в день.5 293 8 hours ago
