"Take a look in the mirror
Take a moment to love
The one you are
Learn to accept yourself
'Cause this that's true
You can't love nobody else
Until you love you" -from the song #quiettime#timetobealone
[Written one year ago today...funny how God has to teach me the same lessons over and over again 🙈]
“Now listen, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.’ Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.’ ” James 4:13-15.
As New Yorkers, we’re so used to being encouraged to be “planners”, to look far into the future and have a game plan of where we want to go and how we’re going to get there. I mean, even just riding the daily subway forces you to have that mentality of “knowing what’s ahead” and “being prepared” (that L train though...🤦🏻♀️). .
But what if we took a glimpse outside of our plans to realize we’re not guaranteed tomorrow, even the rest of today? Not to sound morbid (sorry), but what if we humbled ourselves enough to believe that no matter what and how and how MUCH we plan, life is mostly beyond our control? And in that knowledge, what would it look like to then PRAY, for God’s will to be done but also for us to live in humility and peace, knowing that it is He (not we) who plans, plans to prosper us (Jeremiah 29:11), and who delivers life, life to the fullest (John 10:10).
Between long songwriting or admin sessions, organizing my external world helps me process my internal world aka thoughts, ideas and to-dos. Even my best songwriting ideas come in these moments of refocus from my internal to external. Anyone else find this kind of thing therapeutic?
I must need to do some serious processing tonight because my office and bedroom got some serious rearranging. Good thing there’s a new @maiseltv season 3 to watch! It’s a crazy Friday night up in East Nashville for me tonight! Woooo! Happy Friday to you Cello-brators 💜
Quiet day today. Decided to just take a day, drink some tea, read a book, and listen to some disney princesses sing their songs.
If you know me you know that isn't the easiest for me, but I did it because I know it's right!! #health#fitness#quiettime#activemeditationmusic
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 6:22-23 ESV
To be a slave or servant of God is to fulfill the purpose for which we were made.
“To make the right choices in life, you have to get in touch with your soul. To do this, you need to experience solitude, which most people are afraid of, because in the silence you hear the truth and know the solutions.”― Deepak Chopra
Genesis 47 - Before we jump into chapter 47, I want to give a little recap. While Joseph was still in prison, God gave Pharaoh a dream which only Joseph was able to interpret. The dream predicted 7 years of plentiful harvest followed by 7 years of severe famine. Joseph’s God given ability to interpret this dream and his plan for dealing with the famine are what led to him becoming the #2 guy in Egypt.
Now we are a couple of years into the famine and it’s getting bad. The people had spent all the money they had to buy grain from Joseph (who brought it into Pharaoh’s house) and they were broke. Joseph now begins to accept livestock in exchange for grain. The next year the famine is still raging on and the people have no money, no livestock and no grain. So Joseph then accepts their land as payment for grain. And finally, when the people had no money, no livestock and no land to exchange for grain, Joseph accepted their servitude. They exchanged their freedom for grain. Now, in fairness, after he made them servants, he gave them seed to sow and allowed them to keep 4/5ths of the harvest. And the Egyptians seem to be ok with it. But their servanthood was permanent and the 1/5th payment became law.
Joseph, who was brought into Egypt as a slave, became an enslaver of the Egyptian people. And in the long term, this would not bode well for the Hebrews living in Egypt.
This is one of those passages that is puzzling to me. Surely there was a better solution than permanent slavery in exchange for food. And this seems out of character for Joseph. But in verse 25 the Egyptians say, “You have saved our lives; may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh.”
In a weird way, I have grown to enjoy passages I don’t understand. I think God enjoys it when we really wrestle with a passage and seek out understanding. Some times He may grant new insights and some things we may never fully get until we get to heaven. The important thing is to be in His word digging for truth. My prayer is that as we study God’s word, He will reveal himself to us. That He will meet us there and give us understanding and wisdom. ❤️🙏🏼❤️ #genesis47

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!
Nothing is sweeter than knowing Jesus! But it’s just so hard to believe when your to-do list is a mile long, right?
If I’m honest, many days I wake up believing the sweetest thing isn’t Jesus, it’s getting my to-do list done. It’s just so hard to stop what I’m doing and sit still at his feet.
If I’m honest, many days I’d rather have my house in order than my soul in order. It’s just so hard to leave the dishes undone to sit still at his feet.
If I’m honest, many days I’d prefer to hold on to my self-centered habits and thoughts than be free. It’s just so hard to sit still with Jesus when I know it will expose my selfishness and I’ll have to give it up, even though it enslaves me.
But Jesus made it clear that sitting still with Him is the better thing, the only necessary thing. (Luke 10:41-42)
So how do we choose the better thing?
For me, the first step is learning to STOP🛑. I have to find a way to stop the avalanche of activity in my day.
Sometimes that means stepping outside for a few minutes to clear my head. Sometimes it means getting down on my knees in the kitchen while the water in the sink is still running. Sometimes it means driving in circles around the neighborhood with the kids all buckled singing a worship song instead of hurrying to the next activity. Whatever it takes to get out of the merry-go-round of activity and take a breath.
Once I’ve stopped running around like a crazy person, I have to remind myself that spending time with Jesus is like tithing my money--I must do it in faith FIRST and trust that I’ll have enough money (or in this case, time) for what really matters later.
If I wait to spend time with Jesus til everything else is done, I’ll almost never do it. But if I give him my time first, sitting at his feet before everything else is done, I always find I have enough time for what is necessary. I might not have the time to do what I wanted to do that day, but I got to enjoy the better thing--friendship with Jesus!
Nothing is sweeter than knowing Jesus! But sometimes I have to stop and choose him first to enjoy the sweetness of his presence. How can you stop and choose him today?
You’ve been asking for it and we’ve been waiting for it to be in stock, and now? It’s back in stock!!! 😍 LOVE this gorgeous and understated Bible so, so much. We only have a few so hop over to the shop and order today! ❤️😊❤️ #hosannarevival#birdbibletabs
