The health care field feels more and more like a business rather than about the care that we're giving patients.
I love caring for people but I want to see people make changes that prevent or delay the need to visit a hospital; that's why I became a coach. I want to get back to the nitty-gritty-move-your-body, the fuel-your-body and your mind unsexy work for total wellness. No more quick fixes: coffees, wraps, patches, pills, etc.
I want to share the resources, programs, and plans that have improved my health and my husband's health. The tools that have enhanced our marriage because individually we're happier people. I want that for you too. Because every single person reading this deserves to feel good.
Do you feel me? Yes? Drop in my DMs then sister.
✨All about CLINICALS ✨
Perhaps the most exciting part about nursing school is actually practicing what you learnt from lab and theory on real people !! 😃
If it’s your first time in a clinical rotation it is also perhaps the most nerve-racking thing, am I right?🤗 💖Don’t worry too much or over think it, with each clinical and each semester the more confidence and solidification will come💖 🧠You can expect to be placed in the following psychiatric clinical areas: geriatric, acute adult, community, substance misuse/addictions, tertiary, and child & adolescent... SOME programs do not have child & adolescent rotations and SOME have medical surgical rotations
❕You will not be placed, as a clinical, in high acuity and emergency settings❕
👩🏻⚕️Pre-study for clinical .. if you can! ➡️Ask your program instructors what the most common meds and diagnoses are for that unit, and make flash cards! ➡️Go to open-lab days for more practice on the skills you will be using for clinical, go with your nurse friends! ➡️Brush up on MSE skills AND know your mental health act. Practice on friends and family! Make some flash cards, use @picmonic , and carry your MSE pocket book during clinical. ❣️I suggest as a pre study to focus on thought content, thought process, affect, and mood categories of the MSE❣️
➡️Assessments. As a psych nurse you still utilize every type of nurse assessment.
I recommend studying the “Clinical Survival Guide” created all by @yournursingeducator . It looks like so much hard work and passion went into this with content full of various assessments, fluid solutions, lab values, skills checklists, PPE guide, med calculations, and so much more!

The field of correctional nursing is very gratifying because of the immediate impact nurses can have on an inmates’ health. VADOC nurses are able to educate and inspire inmates to make positive changes to their health because for some the treatment received at a facility is the first medical care they have received in some time.
For this reason, inmates are appreciative of the care and have a high respect for the nursing staff.
Correctional nursing is not for everyone, but those that venture into this field discover just how fulfilling it is and that they could not imagine working in any other nursing setting.
As a VADOC correctional nurse, you will broaden your nursing skill set, experience nursing autonomy, and gain unlimited self-confidence in your patient care knowledge.
Become a part of an exceptional team that is raising the correctional and healthcare standards in Virginia today!

It’s been a while since I posted about it, but Thrive is still very much a part of our daily routine. Capsules, shake, and my favorite DFT keep me energetic, calm, and cool even when the rest of life has me like “WHOA!” Just got more in today and still, after almost 4 years (with a short interruption) have to say this is how I get through my days and remain sane!
T O D A Y ••• was an exercise in "chin up buttercup" 🌼 More below if you can relate to just one of those days..
As I was plowing through a long list of lab orders, with less than desirable data looming ominously over me, the inevitable disappointment in myself, and feeling of chagrin (and annoyance) as a more peer lab member hovered over my shoulder scrutinizing my work... (big oof) I had a moment. That moment where you're both at your wits end, grasping at that last thread, and yet still willing to let it all go because ain't no one got time for emotions and overwhelm. And lightly wafting into my mind the melody of "That's life" by ol' baby blues himself, Frank played on cue in my mind. And it's TRUE. That's life. And it snapped me out of this tornado of anxiety, failure, and fear. Everyday I have this moment. Everyday the lab throws something at me I am so utterly unprepared for, and yet I put on my lab coat, keep my chin up, and work. I have no good end cap to this, other than, these days are the best training grounds for many more like it ahead. I can't wait to face head on all Med/Grad school will have for me. For now, this tough as nuts buttercup will keep her chin up. (Even when I want to shove my head in the sand forever amen 😬😅) 🌱

I just want to be strong as a mother👊🏻 I want to be strong from the inside out. I think one of the most important things to remember is to compete with no one but yourself. We all have our own stuff we deal with daily however the grass isn’t always greener on the other side but it is where we decide to water it.
Choose wisely. 🙏🏻💗
No better feeling than knowing you are exactly where you’re supposed to be💉🖤I’m at a family medicine clinic in an underserved area this semester and I’m so grateful for this opportunity to learn more about healthcare barriers and finding ways to improve them.

‘Who says I can’t? Nobody!’ 👩🏻⚕️
Throwback to when I came home from nursing school and actually felt like a nurse for the first time. Crazy hair and everything.
Now as a nurse, night shift starts tomorrow! And I’ll be working 7PM-7:30AM for the forceable future and with many crazy hair days to come. Just one of the many challenges this career will take me on. 🌙 #nevergiveup#tiuloveyourbody
Nursing school study tips:
Transfer your PPT slides to a 📄 word doc 1-2 days before lecture (I show you how to easily do this in my IGTV)
Using the PPT as a guideline, go through the assigned reading📕 for that week. Add in any additional info from the reading into your word doc
On the day of lecture, have your word doc open and bold anything in your notes that the prof mentions several time💻 (this is probably a test question/topic)
📚𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐘𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐓𝐄𝐒𝐓📚
Print off your word doc, highlight key points, and hand draw any diagrams necessary✏️ (I used to watch YouTube videos or Khan Academy🙌🏽 for additional study resources - I drew out key diagrams from these videos on my printed word doc)
Find a study method that works for you - cue cards, reading your notes out loud, pretend to teach a class about the topic, group study sessions, listening to lecture recordings, Youtube videos, writing out the concept over and over... once you find a method that works - STICK WITH IT👩🏽⚕️
Use mnemonics when memorizing lists of things✅ (e.g. S/S of a disease, side effects of a drug, etc.)
Practice answering questions once you’re done reviewing!! This is a great way to test your knowledge🧠. Usually there are practice questions at the end of every chapter in your textbook
Buy the Saunders NCLEX book📙 - this book does a great job of providing an overview of every topic you’ll cover in school. It covers KEY points (these points are most likely to appear on a test)

I finally GRADUATED! 🎓
Few years ago, many professors had told me to pick another career because nursing “wasn’t for me.” I had so many doubts in myself; I didn’t finish when I was “suppose” to; I had my mental break downs and always asked myself “why did you get yourself into this” — but here I am today, at the end of my undergrad chapter. I can finally say I have accomplished one of my goals! & no matter how many times I doubted myself, I always have to remind myself why I went into nursing in the first place! ♥️👩🏽⚕️💊🩹
