She said her name was Christine but my vibes are saying maybe she’s secretly @carrieunderwood?? 🤷🏻♀️✨
I shot senior photos for Christine’s daughter Angelina, and then she decided to do her own session, too!! So we walked into a closed-for-the-season campground and ran around in a wheat field (with permission) and jumped into the Little Spokane River... it was a good time. And it goes to show you that you don’t need an *occasion* to feel beautiful and take photographs to prove it. ✌🏼🙈 #channelingcarrieunderwood#anytimephotoshoot#wheatfieldsfordays
Two new beers going on this week also happen to be our first two kettle soured beers! First is Salty Dogs, a traditional Gose (pronounced go-zah) which is a tart German wheat beer with salt and coriander! Next is The Sun in Someone Else’s Sky. This tart hazy IPA, has the soft mouthfeel and tropical fruit flavors you want in a NEIPA but the added tartness takes it to the next level! Both these refreshing beers will make you forget that Summer is ending and both will be available this Saturday from 2-8pm! Hope to see you then! #neipa#nanobrewery#neipa#kettlesour#drinkwabeer#wabeer#spokanebeer#spokanedoesntsuck#seektheseal#independentcraft#sourbeers

Part two of my interview w/ Heather from @tinrooffurniture! In part one, she said she aims to make shopping a fun & relaxing experience, like being at a party with a fabulous hostess who takes good care of everyone. And I have to say, Heather you totally succeed at this!! The Tin Roof is such a special & fun place to shop. We're lucky to have it in #Spokane . ❤️
4. How is The Tin Roof tied in with the local community?
Our biggest tie is the investment we've made into @spragueuniondistrict. My dad has worked for decades to clean up our neighborhood & has held on tirelessly to his vision of its potential. When my grandparents moved here in 1945 it was a working class neighborhood w/ a grocery store, bank, shops, restaurants, etc. In the 70s it went "downhill" and he's been working on revitalization since the 90s. With the #SpragueUnionDistrict , we're finally starting to see it come back to life! I'm so excited about what's happening on Sprague!
5. What do you love about Spokane?
It's a beautiful place & still has an affordable cost of living. Spokane is on an upward trend in terms of development & growth. I am so impressed with how innovative our local business community is.
6. What’s coming up for you in the next year?
We're looking at building a new 3-4 story building next to The Tin Roof w/ a specialized shop on the retail level & offices or co-working space on the 2nd & 3rd floor. Then I hope to have an event venue on the top floor. I'm also hoping to acquire a larger warehouse so we can have more in stock options for immediate delivery.
Personally I will be remodeling my forever home! I love remodeling old houses & am getting my 1978 Rockwood house ready to be sold in a couple weeks. My husband & I purchased a new home on the South Hill that's a total mid-century gem. I just get all the warm fuzzies when I think about it.
7. Anything else you want people to know?
The process of custom furniture isn't as scary as most people think, nor as expensive! Bassett, our new custom line, is a fabulous option for affordable, livable, quality furniture. We're excited to bring it to Spokane. It ties in perfectly with our relaxed & casual showroom.

Do you follow @tinrooffurniture? They are a 3rd generation local business & a must-follow for anyone in #Spokane who loves homes & design! Their 40,000 sq ft furniture showroom in the @spragueuniondistrict is beauuutiful & so much fun to shop...but what makes them really special is the owner @tinroofheather! Heather is such a gem: genuine, full of ideas, and so supportive of Spokane's creative community. I'm excited to interview her for today's #insidespokanesmallbiz ! Part one.
1. What’s the history of The Tin Roof?
The Tin Roof evolved out of my grandfather's business Acme Electric. The shop is a poster child for "innovate or die." My dad was always trying new product categories like appliances & stereos, and was Spokane's first PC store in 1978. In the 90s TVs started coming out of their boxes, so we started carrying TV stands, then recliners & sofas, then furniture started taking over half the store. I started actively working in the business in 2001. We expanded the store & filled it with furniture on Thanksgiving 2001. We ate turkey dinner in the showroom while we were setting up to open the next day!
2. Tell me about you!
I hold a degree in Economics from Mills College & have been studying retail my entire life! I love to shop & am very observant of how people shop and what goes into a great experience.
Being that we are a 3rd generation business but NOT a 3rd generation furniture store, we evolved, progressed & learned along the way. Fail Fast, Fail Forward, Fail Often. I'm not afraid to try new things. As a young woman I was a total unicorn in an industry fueled by women but largely run by older men. I used my perspective as a woman & a "retail enthusiast" to create a different showroom experience that is more relationship driven & less transactional. My philosophy is that our customers are our guests, we've invited them to a party & we care for them in the same way a fabulous hostess cares for her guests & makes them feel welcome! I want our guests to remember why shopping locally is a better experience than shopping online. Brick & mortar shops have so much more to offer, we simply must BE BETTER than online shopping or we will cease to exist.

The Book of Will opens NEXT WEEK!
Creating the first folio was no easy task. In fact, the Shakespeare we know and love might have been lost forever if not for a few good men and women with a passionate love for the man and his words.

Despite what a particularly erroneous video that's floating around might say, downtown is gorgeous, thriving, and doesn't need any bus stations to be underground. Spokane isn't perfect, but #spokanedoesntsuck . Photo by @sammccrady.
