“Animal agriculture and eating #meat are the biggest causes of #globalwarming . The burning of fossil fuels for energy and #animalagriculture are 2 of the biggest contributors to global warming, along with deforestation. Globally, fossil fuel-based energy is responsible for about 60% of human greenhouse gas emissions, with deforestation at about 18%, and animal agriculture between 14% -18%. Just over a decade is all that remains to stop irreversible damage from #climatechange , #worldleaders heard as the General Assembly opened a high‑level meeting on the relationship between the phenomenon and sustainable development. “We are the last generation that can prevent #irreparabledamage to our #planet ,” General Assembly President Garcés warned the gathering in her opening remarks, stressing that 11 years are all that remain to avert #catastrophe .
Pointing to intensified calls by youth leaders for #action on #climate change, she said that 2019 must be a year of #climateaction at all levels. Drawing inspiration from the thousands of students worldwide demanding tangible action, she called on world leaders to make 2020 the last year #carbonemissions increase due to #human activities.
To achieve these goals, people worldwide must #change their patterns of #consumption , she said, noting that, every year, 1.3 billion tons of #food are wasted as some 2 billion people suffer of #hunger and malnutrition. “We must address this global emergency with ambition and urgency... Our #future is in your hands, do not let the hope of the world be in vain.” -un.org. #climatecrisis#eatfortheplanet#climatestrike#climateemergency#savetheplanet#worldhunger#plantbased#meateater#weather#extremeweather#unsustainable#earth

It was wonderful to be a part of BMW Foundation's gathering of Responsible Leaders in Merida, Mexico! Few of the many highlights were the opening night event at the Mayan ruins, meeting the Governor of Yucatan, and being hosted in a variety of venues including greens surrounding spectacular haciendas.

After delaying a key parliamentary vote on her proposal for the terms of Britain leaving the European Union last minute on Monday and angering MPs, UK Prime Minister Theresa May spent Tuesday meeting EU leaders in The Hague, Berlin, and Brussels in an attempt to seek concessions to the deal that she had already struck with the European Union over the terms of Britain’s withdrawal from the EU. On her way to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin, May was momentarily trapped in her car, as the door refused to unlock while Merkel looked on. Many thought it was an appropriate metaphor for May’s position and Brexit. She had postponed the vote, which was supposed to be on Tuesday, as her deal was widely opposed by not only opposition MPs but even those from in her own party. Ahead of her meetings with European leaders, EU officials have said that there is “no room whatsoever for renegotiation.” On Wednesday, May's party triggered a no-confidence vote against her. Meanwhile, the European Court of Justice has ruled that the UK can cancel Brexit without the permission of the other 27 EU members 🇬🇧🤷♀️ (📹: BBC)
