All I can say is HOLY MOLY!! This BEEEEEAST of a burger is from a local joint that rose to immediate popularity when it opened just a few years ago. They have great combos of flavor for their sandwiches, burgers, and appetizers! They sell a wide variety of beer as well from local brewers all over Michigan. This burger which even I couldn’t finish (which is saying a lot) is known as the Fat Bastard: two 1/3 pound patties, bourbon sauce, cheese, and bacon (I added caramelized onions because why not 🤷♂️). I had their homemade (yes you read that right) tater tots which were superb!!! I can honestly say this place is in my top 5 favorite places to eat and I have been to many cities and have eaten at a lot of local places. Be sure to stop by this one of a kind place if in the area if not for a burger but for a great brew and great atmosphere!! #burger#burgerjoint#burgerbeast#unbelievablytasty#soundasapound#bacon#cheesy#onions#delicious#sogood#michigan#puremichigan#michiganeats#yooper#yooperfood#local#localbusiness
So I had worked so hard and taken so much pride in the work I’ve done in our garden this year and the twelve tomatoes I planted on my own froze this past weekend. I could’ve cried....in fact I totally did cry. Gardens are so rewarding but it broke my heart that I missed the weather forecast and missed out on covering our tomatoes! So far everything else appears to have survived. And thank god my dad had set aside 12 Roma tomato plants for me so at least I’ll still get some tomatoes this year. I only took one pic of my poor withered tomatoes bc they looked so sad I couldn’t even admit to myself that they were dead. Even though they looked like cooked, wilted spinach.
Yesterday was also the first time since I’ve been helping out with the homestead chores and the hens that I had a baby chick die on my watch. I cried like a baby. I know it’s completely normal and natural when you have as many baby chicks as we do to lose a couple in the beginning. We’ve always lucked out and not had any issues. Because I picked these little chicks up, put them in the brooder and just had so much pride in them, I took it extremely personal that one passed on my watch.
My problems are nothing with all that is going on in our world today. I had a very heavy heart yesterday and allowed myself a day of moping and crying. Today I woke up and decided I’d plant my new and improved tomatoes and take better care of them. Today I decided to plant my sunflowers. Today will be better than yesterday because my mindset will be a bit more positive. •

This time last year, we hiked through some dense woods, calm waterfalls, crossed rustic bridges, encountered ample wildlife & arrived at this isolated beach all to ourselves. Upper Michigan is always a delight !!

Newsletter Memorial Day Weekend Edition // featuring @refugesalvage
Cautiously excited. Like us, I'm sure many of you feel like that as we start to open up our region heading into the summer. While this happens, let's not forget to continue to support this community, specifically our business owners and creatives as they make tough decisions on how to proceed. We all have different ways of moving forward during this time, so lets support them however they see fit.
Enjoy those backyard cookouts, bonfires, and time outside with family & friends (no more than 10!). We know we need that connection and community now more than ever. Have a great Memorial Day Weekend folks! //
