To be honest I came to India not only for travelling, but mostly to volunteering. When I was 18 years old I read the book of Mother Teresa called «No Greater Love». That book changed my life and myself in some way. And since then I’ve been dreaming for many years to go to Kolkata and to try to do all these things that She did. Like serving the people, you know..
It took a long time for some reasons, but finally I did it. From Moscow I came directly to New Deli, and the same night from New Deli I came to Kolkata. That was the first time for me to be so far from home (before I’ve been travelling only in Europe), first time to travel alone, first time volunteering in another country. And despite all these first times everything went so well, just perfect!
I came to Missionaries of charity and sisters were really-really nice! (By the way they said that I'm the first volunteer from Russia in the last 6 years). So they accepted me and my big dream came true.
Firstly I was serving in a house named Nirmal Hriday (means Pure heart) to old ladies. So I've been doing some massage, feeded, some physical exercises, some toilet help, just held the hand or playing simple games. Even though they didn't speak english we understood each other very well. They were really sweet!
When I came back next year Sister M. entrusted me with first aid in a dispensary. In the beginning I worried a bit - what if i'll do something wrong. But I've learned everything quite fast and became the queen of bandaging (😅). That service is so different from what I did in Nirmal Hriday. But still it was intense, helpful and I really enjoyed it.
Generally I spent 5 months in Kolkata and that was a really wonderful special time. I've not only made my dream come true, but I got a unique life experience and met so many inspiring men and women from all over the world. With some of them I still keep in touch :)
Hopefully one day I'll come back!
Also Kolkata became my first Indian impression. About a few interesting places to visit I'll write here later.
A dead tree framing a tree that’s alive in front of a turquoise blue sea all on the same stretch of beach!
Andamans is such an underrated destination, in my opinion.
It’s all because of of the lack of tourism development in this place by the government of India.
This place has everything the Maldives has, except the freedom to do what a resort feels like doing to lure in paying tourists.
I hope that one day I come back to the Andamans to world class resorts and activities as that is provided all over the world at similarly beautiful locations!
