Hi! @tulippoplarco here! I am so excited to share today's prompt - flower - with you! I chose to interpret this prompt with my loose watercolor style by painting a rose...one of my favorite flowers to paint! I started painting with watercolor a few years ago after working mainly in oil and acrylic. I have a degree in studio art, but I actually teach middle school geography! As you can imagine, this can be a stressful job, so watercolor has provided a way for me to tap into my creative side and allow me to relieve stress at the same time! I appreciate that watercolor doesn't require much space (unlike my oils and acrylics), but I really fell in love with the transparency and immediacy of it! It's a challenge to work quickly, but who doesn't love a good challenge?! There is such magic when the colors blend and bleed!
My suggestion for creating loose roses is to leave plenty of white space between the brush strokes or petals. This helps suggest depth and keeps your rose from turning into a blob...which is so easy to do! For this particular rose, I used a combination of Opera Rose and Lemon Yellow for the base, and then added in the darker Permanent Rose to the center. Thanks so much for following along and be sure to post your interpretation of today's prompt!
