This is very PERSONAL & I HATE sharing this post, because it doesn't feel real to me 🙌🏻
Let me introduce you to 2016 Emilie 👉🏻 a very insecure, unhappy girl dealing with a toxic relationship and low self-esteem through emotional eating. If I was sad I turned to food, I was happy I turned to food. I used every single excuse I could to eat unhealthy foods. During exam season I would ONLY eat kgs of candy and drink liters of soda everyday for a month. I reached 100kgs.This is way too high for someone my height. It took me 2 years to realise I had an issue before I started making changes. .
Fast forward to 2019 Emilie 👉🏻 still insecure, but unlike in 2016 I am happy, in the best relationship! I deal with my emotions differently now. During exam season I focus on healthy eating and good sleep. I don’t use food for comfort anymore. When I am stressed I stretch or walk. I have started investing in myself, and learn what works for my body. I am proud of my progress, and I am proud of the changes I have made 🌸
I'm not weird. I'm a unicorn. 🦄😂 Started off my Monday in a cozy mood. Opted for a Holiday Yoga Flow this morning with the Christmas lights around me. It was a good way to stretch and get the blood flowing. I need to work on back bends but I love seeing my range of motion expand by being consistent with my yoga practice. Followed up my yoga session with some coffee in my new unicorn mug! Let's make this a good week friends! 💛
30 minutes on the bike + a 5 minute cool down. My butt hurts and the toes in my right foot are numb.
My dad wants to go on a bike and barge tour from Amsterdam to Brussels in 2021. The trip consists of 20-30 miles of biking per day, in between ports. This will be a breeze for him because he already bikes that amount every few days, but I have never biked more than 10 miles at a time (& have hip issues, hense the numb foot)! So one of my goals for 2020 is to bike 1000 miles. Whether it is a stationary bike at the gym or just riding around outside.
No one said you had to wait until the new year to start!

Nurse Kristy here again... Gotten sick yet this winter?? 😷
When “the ickies” hit our house (which is pretty rare), it’s ALL HANDS ON DECK with cleaning, supplements, throwing open the windows to let fresh air cycle through, & warm chicken broth soup!!
The burning question so many have thought: “BUT CAN/SHOULD I STILL WORKOUT?”
Sometimes! Here are some fast facts for ya:
❄️Fever? Chest discomfort? Difficulty breathing? Tired & achy?
Nope. 🚫 These are your get out of jail free cards.
❄️ Nausea? Flu?
...Guuuurrrrrl. No need to be superwoman. Get in bed & turn on Netflix!
❄️Garden-variety cold? (all above the neck?)
YOU’RE GOOD. ✅ (just keep it light!) Studies DO show that movement boosts immune systems! (Asthma or respiratory conditions: Consult your doc first 💙)
Most of the pros say the most IMPORTANT thing is you need to pay attention to your body & not push it. People tolerate illness differently… so listen to what your body is telling you. 💞
When I’m feeling under the weather, my go-to is light yoga or now modified Barre! It’s SO refreshing to get some light movement in.
What’s yours? 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

I’m feeling so much more joyful than I have in a long time thanks to prep Barre workouts I’ve been doing! ☺️🌟 it’s a mix of Pilates & barre and our official group starts in January. .
I haven’t sprung out of bed at 5:30am in awhile and turned down a massive table of baked goods for just a few bites, in a long time - but for this workout program I do. .
It takes me back to how I first started with fitness and Pilates in college and why I love it so much. You feel a crazy burn 🥵 but you also feel hella strong 🙌🏼 at the same time! The trainer fills your mind with not only correct form for the moves but also super positive encouragement and daily affirmations - and yes, phrased correctly they can change your entire attitude when you ACT on them. 😉 .
Working on that inner joy so it can trickle to the outside and all my interactions with my kids, my family and everyone I interact with daily! So excited for my new baseline of fitness and mindset for 2020!! 🙌🏼💫
Svadhyana - to recollect - the practice of self study.
To me, this is the most powerful thing that yoga has given me; the ability to slow down long enough to reflect, tune in, and listen to my SELF; everything stems off of this.
My initial resistance to starting yoga was exactly that; because I found the numbing nature of staying permanently busy or productive brought me a sense of relief. I could hide within it. I wanted to avoid challenges, parts of myself, and the world around me.
And yet, it was only through slowing down, once I finally started to practice yoga, that I began to understand how to heal. I came to know myself and then, later, ask the questions I was scared to.
I think sometimes we hope transformation looks and feels like blooming, but for me it has felt anything but. It’s been messy and uncomfortable and I have wanted to go back a billion times. But through self study: yoga, meditation, journalling, writing; I am able to unpick where those feelings and the resistance to face them comes from. It helps me stay steady, and on the right path, when I want to rush back.
I have learnt there is more to be found in curiosity than in avoidance, with it we can start to rewrite our stories and ourselves in a different way.
