🇮🇸WHERE NASA AND I BOLDLY GO!
Not much in common, but the NASA 2020 Mars Rover test program and I have at least ONE thing: field days in the Lambahraun lava field surroundings, in the interior highlands of Iceland.
I didn't bring my own Mars Rover, but trying different areas for hiking, now the Skalpanes (847 MASL/2778 ft) mountain and Lambahraun lava field, on the east side of Langjökull.
Drove an F-road up, muddy, pebbles, pot holes, washboards, but not too bad. Quite a vast "moon (Mars!) landscape", stony, brown sand, minimal vegetation. And the Langjökull glacier, 2nd largest in Iceland, is ginormous!
No tourists now, in the off-season. Strong, biting winds and +6 °C/48 °F must have changed their mind... Talked to a local (technically no residents, here), who told me they're preparing for the coming snow in October.
