A little bit of history for today: 10 years ago, Ghost of the Gravel was born from a group of friends that loved bikes. No one had to declare what they were focusing on that year, we rode as far and frequently as possible. Winter meant gravel, and the gravel NW of Calgary was the best there was... and so the Water Valley 220 was born. Calgary-to-calgary, this would become an annual tradition of rain, sleet or snow (and usually all 3). These days, we shorten it a bit and add some amenities - but the spirit of getting out there and pushing yourself on seldom-travelled roads remains. #graveldecade#runwhatchabrung#gravelride#gravelrace#adventureride
Thanks @marco_manzoni for this shot in the Dolomite Mountains. We do not see a lot of Ducati Multistratas on the adventure channels these days but we can not forget that the Italians are always in the race. The legacy of this engine, the 1200 was the first to win the Pikes Peak Hill Climb and the first bike in its class to ever make a time in less than 10 minutes by now legend Carlin Dunne (died in 2019 in the same competition). Now you can get ahold of the newer 1260 version and head into some mountains near you. Ride the Wind, Race the Rain, Chase the Sun...into the Badlands!
Feast on views where soaring mountain peaks meet spectacular limestone cliffs and gorges, dense forests and lavender fields stretch for miles. Riding from Geneva to Nice involves long days in the saddle, but with your spellbinding surroundings, you'll be inspired to keep pedalling all the way to the sunny Mediterranean city of Nice.
@rkhoob Thank you for this especially cool shot and the vision to make it happen. Sometimes being on a bike is just about as awesome as being a bird in flight. It is a hard thing to describe but we appreciate the mood this image musters. It is a throwback to a time around the end of the 60s and beginning of the 70s which spawned the counter culture movement of riding free. The face of such an era can be imagined on many of the deities of that era who had names such as McQueen, Hopper and Fonda. The imagery is classic, wind swept riders chasing the sun through American southwest like those nostalgic scenes in Easy Rider. Badlanders from a different age. Now you, we are the Badlanders. Ride the Wind, Race the Rain, Chase the Sun...into the Badlands!
I missed the turnoff... again. I tried to make the short cut back on before Chris but didn’t quite make it 🤣

Running out of things to do with the kids? Take them out on a family bike ride next weekend! You’ll get a healthy dose of vitamin D, family time and exercise. And it’ll cost you absolutely nothing at all. Except maybe the price of a Calippo at the end of the ride... 🍦
Badlanders, what is the best bike for you? In this pic @anastasiia_volianiuk has made a fantastic choice in the Honda crf250l Rally. Is it big and burley and over 500lbs like its big brother the famous Africa Twin 1000 (534lbs), nope! But it is surely a capable on/off road bike that still has a top speed of 87mph with a wet weight of only 341lbs. That is a clean 200lbs lighter. Lighter to lift when the inevitable happens and your bike decides to take a nap. What do you think? Is the big heavy bike the best choice for your overland adventure? Or the more subtle yet capable smaller, lighter bike? The debate continues. Just Ride! Ride the Wind, Race the Rain, Chase the Sun...into the Badlands!
One of our team riders Myles @hardendurohooligan is setting off on May 1 on an epic record setting ride to conquer all 10 Australian deserts in one big loop and he’ll finish off by racing the Finke desert race. He’ll be riding solo, unsupported and will have to carry 60 plus litres of fuel for a couple of the longest stretches between fuel. He’ll be riding his customised KTM 500exc. It’s going to be one hell of an adventure. Get behind him and show him some support. You can follow his adventure on his blog Facebook page 10 Desert and Finke Challenge and on @hardendurohooligan on Instagram.
