Lions, tigers and BEARS oh my! Just without the lions and tigers. Marjorie Wells, 2021 Arizona Miss Agriculture USA, and Kailey Foster, 2020 Utah Miss Agriculture USA, got together for three days of fun this week. One of their stops was Bearizona, an attraction in Williams, Northern Arizona. Bearizona is half drive through and half walk in zoo. But they don’t only have bears they also have Buffalo, deer, wolves, long horned sheep, mountain goats, and more!
Kailey and Marjorie had the chance to speak to one of the zoo keepers of the Grizzly Cubs. These cubs are a trio of siblings that were rescued in Montana.
Here are some fun grizzly bear facts they learned:
🐻 Subspecies of the brown bear
🐻 Omnivores that eat mostly plants
🐻 Can reach to 1,000 lbs and 9 ft tall
🐻 Long Flat claws for digging
Bears also often approach farms and ranches to find food, especially when natural food sources are scarce. Thankfully, there are a number of effective strategies that can protect your property so that the use of firearms becomes a last resort. Using electric fences, securing pens and crops as well as guard dogs are some ways to protect your land from wild animals as well as to keep them safe.
According to a new peer-reviewed study, going organic for just 6 days can decrease the glyphosate in your body by 70%.
Yes, that’s right — a 70% decrease in less than a week. That’s what eating organic can do.
But why should we have to worry about glyphosate in our bodies in the first place? Shouldn’t our food come with the knowledge that what we’re eating is safe and healthy?
In fact, this study found glyphosate in every one of its participants, including children as young as four. This is unacceptable; we can’t let these toxins accumulate in our kids, families, and neighbors.
When we say the future is organic, we mean it. We don’t need toxic chemicals to grow our food — and we certainly don’t need them in our bodies.
H A R V E S T. . . A time I look forward to all year.
Watching the fields turn from brown to green to yellow and white, then slowly becoming brown again — awaiting new life for the next year.
The bustle of the combine and tractors working in the fields. . The men gathered around grain bins with wagons full of their labor. . a husband coming in from a rewarding day’s work. . the low hum of the dryer working on the harvested corn at night.
As we look over these fields that have grown, we remember how we have grown with them. The many days, weeks, and months that were filled with joyful and painful moments that have lead us to where we are now. . Where we can clearly witness God’s faithfulness.
No harvest looks the same. Rather, some remind us of how much we need to change the next year. But at the end, when the labor is done and the fields are bare, the farmer hopes for what will grow the next season.
Harvest is what a farmer prepares all year for. Indeed, this is what we all have been waiting for. . There is always new hope in the next season. 🌾 - L
