The Monastery is one of the legendary monuments of Petra. Similar in design to the Treasury”Petra” but far bigger derives its name from the crosses carved on the inside walls, suggestive of its use as a church in Byzantine times.Zoom in real close to see me as measure of how enormous this wonder truly is 👀
There is no other word for today other than EPIC.
I’ve wanted to see Petra from reading National Geographic as a kid.
I mean looking at the pictures in National Geographic ;) .
I was always struck by that canyon ( the siq) and the colors of the photos.
Well my friends photos do not do it justice!
The sheer size of the place is insane.
I thought it was going to be the treasury and a few caves and that’s it.
But this place goes in for miles. .
In its heyday they think that Petra was home to 30,000 inhabitants.
To put this into perspective- there’s 55,000 people living in today’s Petra.
We went from the entrance canyon ( just like Indy;)
All the way to the top of the mountain to the monastery.
40k steps on my Fitbit and we still haven’t seen it all!! I’m in love with Petra.
This is how shocking it is to see...Stephen normally sings all the time. He didn’t sing one song while we were there- he didn’t even hum the Indiana Jones music! - maybe tomorrow? @hammerpp@pauline_is_on_a_journey #petrabynight#ilovepetra#petra#thetreasuryofpetra#themonasterypetra#aldeirmonastery#goddesspetra#visualdiary#ipadprocreate#canitakepetrahomewithme
