IM IN THE HALLOWEEN SPIRIT. I VISITED THIS HAUNTED SPOT, THE ITALIAN BIRDE. 📷 Ceramic tombstone portraits began their rise in popularity in the late 19th century. Most feature subjects that were alive at the time of the portrait; rarer are post-mortem portraits taken with recently deceased subjects posed as if still alive.
Julia Buccola Petta--also known as “the Italian Bride”--may be the only person whose tombstone portrait was taken six years after her death. Petta died during childbirth in 1921 and was buried in her wedding gown. Years after Petta’s internment, her mother, Filomena Buccola, began having nightmares about her daughter being buried alive. Buccola secured the necessary permissions to have Petta exhumed. One can only imagine what went through Buccola’s mind when she saw how well-preserved her daughter appeared!
Buccola took a portrait of Petta’s body in her coffin and re-interred her in the same spot. Later, an elaborate monument featuring a statue of Petta in her wedding gown and a ceramic portrait of her as she lay in her coffin was placed on Petta’s grave.
Legend says the ghost of Julia Buccola Petta, aglow in bridal white, is observed wandering the cemetery lawn by her monument. Given the incredible story of her exhumation and the addition of her very post-mortem portrait to her monument, it’s likely that her wandering ghost is simply that: a legend. #christian#Catholic#orthodox#jewish#israeli#israel#chaldean#mormon#Jesus#god#bible#church#holyspirit#spiritual#spirituality#atheist#hindu#buddhist#hijab#mosque#muslim#armenian#assyrian#coptic#maronite#serbian#healer#Religion#nativeamerican#greekorthodox

Նինոցմինդա (Ninotsminda) | Historic Armenian Cities Campaign
Ninotsminda is a town and a center of the eponymous municipality located in Georgia's southern district of Samtskhe-Javakheti. Ninotsminda is the closest town to the Armenian border. Translation of the current official name of the settlement means "Saint Nino" in English and it was given to the town in honor of the illuminator of Georgians St. Nino, in 1991.
The Georgian census of 2014 counted 24,491 residents in Ninotsminda municipality, of which 23,262 (95%) were Armenians, and 1,029 (4.2%) were Georgians.
In the village of Gandza, Ninotsminda, was born the symbolist poet Vahan Derian whose poems are soaked in images of rain, mist, pallid fields and shapeless shadows deriving from the nature of Javakhk, the home of his childhood and the treasury of his reminiscences. These images became symbols of sadness, hopelessness and peace in the realm of his poetry. Ninotsminda, among other districts of which are heavily populated with Armenians in Javakhk, such as Akhalkalak and Akhaltsikhe – are characterized by extreme poverty and decline in rural production.
The region remains economically and financially weak, politically inactive, and very poorly connected to the rest of Georgia, largely due to the lack of involvement and initiative to include the Armenians within the Georgian national framework. Moreover, the Georgian government has taken very few steps to remedy this situation.
