👀 Being that it's Friday the 13th, Wheat Ridge Police Department wants to remind residents to be particularly cautious around open ladders, mirrors, suspicious characters in hockey masks, and chainsaw enthusiasts.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Play it safe this Friday night, and in addition to thinking twice before watching that scary movie alone, 🧟♂️ designate a sober driver!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Don't make your own bad luck. If you plan to join friends for Happy Hour, don't take the chance of a DUI, designate a sober driver or take a car service home. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In the past 18 months I’ve used this platform to share my parenting journey and things that work for me, to make parenting manageable. I’ve also learned a lot from other mothers.
I believe it does takes a village to raise a child. I’ve also noted that the traditional village has slightly shifted, with this modern digital era. Where information sharing and support can be given (to a certain extent) on such platforms.
___ “Motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 14 and under. Child safety seats and safety belts, when installed and used correctly, can prevent injuries and save lives. Unrestrained children are more likely to be injured, suffer severe injuries and die in motor vehicle crashes than children who are restrained.” _____
No parent wants a car trip to end in a tragedy. Let us buckle up our children ♥️🙏🏾
Of the 546 motorcycle accidents reported last year, 51% involved another motor vehicle. (1) And I drew a helmet on this guy because in 245 (or 55%) of last year's accidents the riders weren't wearing helmets. (1)
In order to reduce distracted driving, the New York State Department of Transportation and the New York State Thruway Authority unveiled special “Texting Zones” in 2013 along highways that alert motorists to areas where they can pull-off to park and use their mobile devices. The “It Can Wait – Text Stop” initiative directs motorists to Rest Stops, Travel Plazas, Park-and-Ride facilities, and other parking locations along the Thruway and highways that can dual-function as Texting Zones. Unique signage was placed along major highways across the state to inform drivers where the 91 Text Stops are located.
Currently a conviction for a cell phone ticket in New York State costs $50 to $200 for a first offense. A second offense in 18 months costs between $50 and $250. A third offense in 18 months can cost between $50 and $450. Surcharges can add up up to around $100.
Since 2013 texting tickets had a steady growth each year, but much lower than the "explosion" of 2011 and 2012. However, the majority of tickets is in New York city, where the texting zones have zero influence.

At first I debated sharing this, but.....some people just don't know how scary it can be to ride a bike, and have something like this happen. I love riding, and will continue to ride, but people need to take a moment sometimes and think that around that blind turn, stopped at that stop sign, might be a motorcycle. This guy was doing easily 60+ mph down Post Oak, and cut a blind turn into my lane on this road(Stubbs Bridge).....had I been 5 seconds earlier, there's no doubt he could've maimed or even killed me. Sometimes I ride a little faster than I should, and no doubt take risks I sometimes regret....but all-in-all, I ride as safe(ly) as possible more often than not. Straight up, situations like this are completely out of the rider's control - it scares the living shit out of me, and every other person out there who rides. Take a second, assess your surroundings....and try to keep those out on the road who are 'less protected' on your mind. Feel free to share, if need be. Be safe out there everyone. ***WARNING: Forgive my language; I was a little shook about the whole thing initially. Lol
Had great experience at the 2019 Missouri Highway Safety and Traffic Blueprint Conference where we learned a lot about traffic safety efforts in Missouri. Remember to be a safe driver and buckle up, phone down! #BUPD#ArriveAlive
⚠️Vehicle crashes are the #1 cause of injury for employees⚠️ 📵Do you have a seatbelt/cell phone policy? How often do you review it with employees? Do you enforce and have consequences? Mark Woodward the #SafetyGuy gave a great presentation. #HandsFreeMissouri#BUPD#ArriveAlive

#OnThisDayInHistory the first #drunkdriving arrest was made. On September 10, 1897, a 25-year-old London taxi driver named George Smith becomes the first person ever arrested for drunk driving after slamming his cab into a building. Smith later pleaded guilty and was fined 25 shillings. While we’ve come a long way since then, drunk driving remains a danger on the road. If you’re charged with drunk driving today, expect much harsher punishments than 25 shillings. #DontDriveDrunk#ArriveAlive#DontDrinkAndDrive#MADD#HistoryChannel
