Sunday Antics with Leslie: At the end of this past week's experiences there simply is no humor. I find myself moving a bit slower. Taking time with my family to appreciate and to enjoy all that makes us uniquely us. Last week I watched the news graphic of Dorian sitting in the Bahamas. Having lived in South Florida for more than 3 decades I knew the wreckage would be horrific. We all watched and waited. Wondering if it would be us next. There was relief at not being hit by Dorian and an odd letdown after days of preparation, like the letdown of a cancelled social event. Odd to feel that way knowing what kind of monster wasn't coming to the dance. We are all praying for the Bahamas. Hoping they can somehow recover from this horrific event.

Sunday Antics with Leslie: Sooooo what do a dentist, an orthodontist, a gastroenterologist and a donkey have in common? I have an answer for that, Hurricane Dorian. This week we have cancelled, and rearranged appointments of all sorts. We have prepped for hurricane by purchasing gasoline, batteries, food, snacks, water, candles, and all sorts of things to help get us through a possible extended power outage. We have had to move 11 horses and 1 donkey, named Dude Man, to a safer location to weather out the storm. We have watched all the updates and experienced all the highs and lows that each weather report brings. Every season we watch the local newscaster go from a regular looking newscaster to that hurricane guy, a sleep deprived maniac. By the end of all the news casts they are disheveled and look like they are one energy drink away from self-destruct mode. They are eyes wide open from days of blow by blow accounting of a storm moving at a snail’s pace. Dorian had appeared to be making a b-line right for us but by now we have heard so many warnings that by now it is almost impossible to believe it may very well be much less of a direct hit than we anticipated. Then there is the moment during the middle of the night before the storm when you are really hungry and you go in search of a snack. Eureka you find a bag of snacks, it is dark, they taste a little funky, but hey everybody in the house is a health nut, they must be fine. Well maybe not, in today’s daylight they are clearly labeled Pill Pockets for the dogs. Whoops...... for the record this was not me. It was my horse trainers’ boyfriend. He now has a headache this morning. Whatever challenges you face during this storm please prepare and take all the warnings seriously, but we most wish you safety and none to minimal damage after the storm moves away.
It's Snowing in August!
My Floridian children have seen actual snow maybe two times in their lives. We have had only one real snowball fight, sledding, northern adventure. Last evening started out innocently enough. My daughter wanted a bean bag chair refilled for her room. These days bean bag chairs are filled with little styrofoam pellets. They are statically charged little pellets that look like beans, beans they are not, thank heavens. When they began to spill on the floor I saw a gleam in my daughter’s eye. I recognized it as the same one I used to give my mother when some sort of mischief was rolling around in my mind. She grabbed a handful and tossed them at me. What was I to do? I threw them back at her. Next thing I know the room exploded into a life size Snow Globe, there were pellets everywhere. I think I may have swallowed a couple somewhere along the way. I even removed one from Zachary’s ear. We descended into giggling, laughing, rolling around and making “Snow Angels” on the floor. The humor in all of this is best shown in the pictures of our laughter. In this digital world filled with constant engagement online the fun of being just plain silly sometimes gets lost. We had a silly, outrageously fun and super messy laugh out loud blast together. The only electronic device that was used was a camera to snap up some super fun memories. This morning we removed a few “Beans” from the kids rooms, the bathroom, the kitchen, the laundry room…… a real lesson in static electricity. Live, love, laugh. Play hard and laugh out loud. Make memories. Create stories to be retold to the next generation.
Peace, Love and, Butterflies, Leslie

Do you know the differences between a UTV and an ATV? 🤷♀️ A UTV is commonly used for work and is wider, while ATVs are for recreation, narrower and fit into smaller spaces.
In a UTV there are anywhere from 2 to 6 seats, and an ATV usually sits 1 to 2 people.
A UTV has many safety features, such as: Roll-cage, doors, windscreen and seat belts. An ATV does not have any of these, but is completely open, allowing more control and the possibility of jumping off if in a dangerous situation.
Stairs Flight 727 - We are in N Carolina at US Pony Club Championships. The twins qualified for this event & we have planned & trained for months. We rented a house close to Tryon International Equestrian Park. The house has a basement, main level, & an upstairs. We had been commenting on it & even all the stairs weren’t so bad. That was until this morning. We have been rising at 4:30 am for the kids to arrive at the barn by 6:00 am. It is a tiring pace & not for the meek. I have done loads of laundry, cooked breakfast, & been the support & glue that holds it all together. We traveled here with 3 twelve year olds, their coach, & two horses. Each day I have traversed the stairs about a million times but today on the way down the stairs I was wearing socks & mind you the socks are an important detail. I hit the landing & then next to the last stair which has a hardwood tread on it. As most of you know socks & hardwood equal slippery. I mean like stepping on white pavement paint after a rain storm slippery. In a half a second I was air born. I landed on the hardwood floor, skinned my elbow, & began to curse. I mean how I was that close to the main floor & end up flying I do not know. However the height wasn’t much more that a turkey could achieve. My husband, David was at the top of the stairs looking over the railing as the chain of events unfolded. When asked about what happened his answer was simple and short, “impressive”. So at least I don’t fall in a simple manner but an impressive one, this is not a super power I was looking for. So after my “impressive” fall I locate the Ibuprofen & the horse liniment. I have now decided I’m going to start bringing my Super Mom cape with me on all family trips. If I’m going to fly I might as well look like Super Mom (Hero) doing it. Before everyone asks I am fine, nothing is broken. Please laugh, because I am, & best of all the kids had an amazing day of competition & I couldn’t be more proud. Have a great week,
Friday is housekeeping day at the Drury zoo. We have a rabbit; 2 cats; 2 dogs and 3 horses. I usually end that sentence with and a Partridge in a Pear Tree. This many pets equals lots of pet hair, excrement, and then there is the other issue. Our sweet little mutant kitty Pukey Bear. O.K. that is not her real name it’s Smokey Bear. We have a pair of littermates Bengal kitties, Smokey and Bandit. They are 15+ years old and Smokey has earned her name. She regurgitates something nearly every day. That is nearly every day of her entire life. As I zip around the house and head out to shake out the rug from my son’s room. I fly around the corner headed for the door on a mission to remove God only knows what from his rug when I find myself sliding for home base. As I narrowly miss connecting my head on with the front door my brain registers, “SLIME”! What the holy flying motherless goats is on the floor. Nooooooo!!!! It’s a Pukey Bear gift. She has gobbled down her breakfast and then strategically relocated it to the front door entryway of the house. I am now screeching and hopping on one foot. I may as well have stepped in acid. I am not strong a stomached person and am now nearly gagging as I see the rest of the pile smeared all over where I just slid through. I hop to the bathroom on one foot and manage to get my slimed foot in the sink. I find a Lysol wipe to finish the disinfecting the poisoned foot. As I attempt to remove my foot from the sink I made a tiny error and slipped. I am now on the tile floor wondering if this is where it all ends. Thankfully I didn’t break a hip and was able to get upright once again. I am certain that darn cat is sitting around the corner licking a paw relishing in the circus side show she just witnessed.
Whether you’re riding on your own private property or taking the back roads & trails, you need ATV insurance.
ATV Insurance is mandatory when riding on the road, and it gives you legal protection if you’re pulled over by the police. #TipTuesday
Sunday Antics with Leslie:
Not so much an antic but a very special story I would like to share. Today I received this beautiful pair of earrings. They have and will always have a special meaning to me. Not because they are made from precious metals or cost a handsome price. They are far more valuable than any of that because they represent selflessness, love, respect and hard work. My children recently won Grand and Reserve Grand Champion at a local horse show. Along with trophies and ribbons came gift certificates. They are about to go to a championship competition and have earned their way through with hard work and sacrifice. As their Mom, I drive them in more ways than just by car. I haul horses, clean stalls and spend countless hours studying and training in addition to homeschool and so on. I gladly support them and I am proud out loud. I talk about them to anyone who will listen. I count them as the most amazing people I've ever met, I am blessed. Today I took them to the store to use their gift certificates, to get a reward, something fun for themselves. They shooed me away so they could shop on their own. It wasn’t long and they came to me with a little box. These earrings were a gift from the two of them. They had pooled their winnings and purchased mom this gift. They managed to get a bandana each and a matching one for their friend at the barn. I am touched and awed that they did this together. They are siblings through and through. As twins they fight with one another fiercely. Today they came together and once again I am amazed at them. I am thankful to be called their Mom and so thankful to be on this journey.

I am directionally challenged. Period. I have no, I repeat no sense of direction. With the many things I do successfully somehow a sense of direction just has never set up housekeeping in my head. When I got my first GPS it was newly found freedom. I could find Walmart anywhere in the country. That was and will always easily be my absolute favorite birthday gift. Google Maps is now my 2nd best friend. Recently I was presented with the opportunity to show off exactly how directionally challenged I really am. I managed to get my friend (the driver) lost in my own neighborhood. It seemed simple enough. I was sure we turned where we were supposed to. However, the landmarks did not add up. When you have no sense of direction you learn your landmarks really well. My pal, Christeena, has a great sense of direction. She makes some turns strategically designed to get us back on track. After 3 wrong turns, a dirt road and nearly having to engage the 4WD, driving so slow we were passed, 1 U-turn, and at least one abrupt stop we arrived to pick up my children from the neighbor’s house. We had a really good laugh albeit at my expense. It was the kind of laugh where you cry and need tissues. My kids have a great sense of direction, which they thankfully got from their father. They bail me out all the time. I tell my friends that I have this issue and they NEVER really believe me. No way. I now have at least one pal that will never question this again.
