Today, I just feel like posting one of my favorite picture. This one was taken last year in a cold Brussels while the passengers aboard this Etihad A332 were expecting to be by the beach in few hours. Life can be so unfair sometimes but “it is what it is”.

PK8303 UPDATE: New evidence has come to light relating to the tragic events of the 22nd of May when a PIA airbus A320 (not shown) crashed short of the runway in Karachi, killing 97 of the reported 99 on board, and injuring a further eight on the ground.
It has now come to light that the approach the aircraft had been on when it crashed was its second one, having gone around on a missed approach just minutes previously, with the go around being initiated when, on touchdown, the engines of the A320 came in contact with the runway after the landing gear was reportedly not extended. This then made three sets of parallel skid marks down runway 25L at Karachi, the first from the initial touchdown, and the second and third likely being from the aircraft not yet having enough speed to climb away while the engines were being throttled back up during the go around. This will have then likely caused severe internal damage to the interior and exterior of the CFM-56 engines, resulting in the smoke and other damage seen in images taken of the stricken airliner just minutes before it crashed on its second approach.
Factors such as some form of hydraulic failure have been ruled out as, not only was the aircraft seen to be perfectly manoeuvrable during the flight, but the crew did not report anything of that nature to ATC at Karachi on either the first or second approach, and, on the second approach, the landing gear was seen to be working fine. Had it been a hydraulic failure then the pilots would have conducted a “Gravity drop” of the gear, using their own weight to lock them into place, and the gear doors would have been remained open, however they were seen to be closed upon extension of the landing gear on the second approach.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish the survivors of the crash and those injured on the ground a quick recovery.
