I remember the first time I heard this Sankskrit prayer was during the most wonderful yin/restorative yoga class led by @omshantimama@yogacloud9 years ago. I’ve read several different translations of this mantra since then, and appreciate them all. @omshantimama offered the translation as a metta prayer of lovingkindness, that we first extend to ourselves, then to our closest friends and family, then to our community and finally to our world. Some days we just need to put our hands on our heart and tell ourselves “may I be safe, happy and free from suffering and realize the light of my true nature.” Some days we need to picture our loved ones standing before us and silently repeat “may YOU be happy, safe, and free from suffering.” Lately, I have been praying for our community and world to be safe, happy and free from suffering. However, because I know the only thing I have control over is myself, the translation I chose to print on my Baja Mala cards, which every workshop participant receives as well as anyone who purchases a Baja Mala, is this:
May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words & actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and freedom for all.
Thank you @claraoceja for the Spanish translation.
