Today, the dancers of @benjaminbrionesballet had the absolute honor of performing for the patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center- and an extra special thanks to @adelitadance who is a nurse at MSKCC as well as a company dancer, she made this possible!
It's hard for me to think about this topic for too long, because cancer runs rampant on both sides of my family. I know this is an ugly disease that causes so much pain and heartache.
Yet the audience was so receptive, so appreciative and so interested
The very LEAST we can do is offer our art.
Whether it means we inspired a patient to listen to new music to brighten their day. Or maybe we helped them to learn more about their bodies? Maybe we just provided a distraction, or something for them to focus on when they have their next appointment...
Even if all we did was give them an excuse to leave their room and not be isolated for the day- whatever they want to do with this small gift, it's up to them.
But it's also up to us, the artists, to always keep giving and connecting and sharing and feeling. That is what we were put here for.
SWIPE ➡️ to see some snapshots from the day.
Ballet is a balance, if you please mind the pun. It is both pain and beauty. It is dramatic like a summer storm and as calm as a winter snow. It is a lifelong effort for a moment of the ethereal. It causes both it’s artists and spectators to question our own limited boundaries. This is why it will always remain relevant. It has the ability to bend and move bodies and emotions into a suspended question mark. “What next?”

Reposted from @theballerina This is me currently on my couch watching Home Alone, next to all the laundry I have to fold and avoiding all the things I have to do to prepare for Christmas ! 🙈🤣❤️🌲 This will be my very first Christmas on my own and away from my family and I’m going to miss them a lot. However I am really excited to spend it with some incredible friends and I look forward to learning new traditions, performing and eating lots and lots of food! How are you spending the holidays this year?

💎Who is Imam Hussein?
💓who is this hussain whom the whole world is crazy about?!
⚔️What has happened so massive on Ashura in Karbala?
📣O people of the world know that I am the imam al-Qَaem 📣O people of the world know that I am the sword that takes revenge 📣O people of the world know that my grandfather Hussain was martyred while he was thirsty 📣O people of the world indeed I am the son of Hussain whose Holy body was left on the soil while it was uncovered 📣O people of the world indeed my grandfather Hussain was trampled out of spite
Imam Hussain was Prophet Muhammad 's grandson. After 50 years of Prophet Muhammad's demise, (in time of Imam Hussain), Yazid was the ruler. A cruel corrupted man who knew nothing about Islam and intended to establish a monarchy under the name of Islam. he asked for Imam Hussain's oath of allegiance in order to obtain reputation in society. Imam Hussain refused to do so in order to save the society from a cruel monarch. Therefore Yazid equipped his army to kill Hussain and his family . Yazid's army besieged Hussain and his family members in Karbala desert in Iraq .The army didn't let them drink water for 3 days. But Hussain, his beloved brother Abbas and his companions didn't surrender and kept fighting while they were thirsty. They were all martyred but their resistance disclosed the real face of Yazid and defeated him finally. We still mourn and commemorate them after 1400 years. because Imam Hussain and his 72 companions were brave men who fought evil for justice .Brave men belong to all times and all ages. May God bless them
