Throwback Saturday! Great demonstration on stability of the core! Keep those hips stable, abs, glutes, quads firing to support the spine!
Remember- if you can’t stabilize on the ground how will you stabilize walking, or skiing? Do 2 sets for 1 min at a time! As often as you want!
The studded beach known as #Giantscausway in #NorthernIreland , is made up of polygonal columns of #basalt protruding from the coast and water. They were caused by a volcanic eruption 50-60 million years ago.

A voi cosa sembra?
On our GirthDog Farm, we get irrigation water from 8 wells. The bulk of our water comes from shallow wells, like the one in the second pic, that average 110’. In the basin where we farm, we have 2-6’ of sand on top 80-110’ feet of river rock. Below that is basalt. When the alluvial (gravel) wells were dug, the driller went a few feet into basalt as a pump chamber for the pumps. We have anywhere from 10-15’ of water bearing gravels that have awesome horizontal transmissibility, which means we have very little water drawdown, making pumping very efficient. The first pic is of our deep basalt well, which is 1450’ deep. It is cased with 16” pipe down to 880’ with slots from 550 to 880’ to let water in. Then its 10” open hole to 1450’, opening up more water bearing layers. Back when the molten basalt was spreading out, the top of each layer/eruption had a layer of slag, which had tiny little air pockets. It’s those slag layers where our water comes from. In that well, the water level holds around 350’ below the surface, and the 500hp gear pumps 2500 gpm. #water#irrigation#irrigatedag#knowwhereyourfoodcomesfrom#work#workforfood#bob#farm#farmlife#farm#work#workhard#familyfarm#everydayisearthday#deepwell#basalt#familyfarm#goodluck
First time ever SPELUNKING!!! We went on an amazing adventure! I am so proud of us ! We first went to obtain a permit to go to the Big Skylight Cave/Lava Tube from the park ranger behind the desk at the Northwest New Mexico Visitor Center, near the town of Grants. We got started late so we only went cave diving in the Big Skylight. There is a reason you get a permit besides making sure you’ve never been in a cave before, due to white nose syndrome killing off the bats that hibernate there, the other reason is if you don’t check back in the Rangers would know to come looking for you.
Lance and I took a chance to go for it and I’m so happy we did. You’ve got to keep in mind it is completely dark in the caves, the ceilings are all jagged, the lava is uneven, extremely difficult to walk on and it would be really easy to cut your head, hand, arm, etc.. More information to come... have to go to surgery . Lala world 🤪

This basalt canyon at the right time of year is seriously one of the most beautiful places you can see in @nature 🤯 Stuðlagil, Iceland. Video by @whereisweatherby#nature

One of my favorite videos of the year. If you visit this canyon at the right time, you will experience this incredible river color. As there is a reservoir connected to the river system, it is brown for most of the year. The ideal months to see this vibrant turquoise color is from mid-May to mid-July as that is when the dam is not overflowing.
Many people have accused me of manipulating the colors, but this is actually a unedited video straight from my iPhone. Be aware that the vibrancy of the color depends on weather conditions and the position of the sun each time. I visited this canyon on July 4th and this video was taken 3:20 PM. It was partly cloudy and the position of the sun lined up perfectly with the river. Right when the video was recorded, the sun was behind a thin cloud which basically acted as a softbox. So while having the brightness from the sun lighting up the river, the cloud prevented harsh shadows to appear in the shot.

Photo by @kiliiiyuyan | A spine of basalt rock twists and spirals into the sky in western Iceland. Although basalt is quite common, the upheaval that created this formation is a subtle sign of the volcanic forces below the surface.
