📖 LEGGENDA SU GIANT'S CAUSEWAY 📖

📖THE LEGENDS ON GIANT'S CAUSEWAY 📖
The most widespread legend concerns the giant Fionn mac Cumhaill, who would have built a pavement to walk to Scotland to fight the rival giant, Angus. A version of the story tells that Finn fell into a deep sleep before going to Scotland, so when Angus came to look for him, his wife Oonagh draped her husband Finn and pretended to convince his rival that this was actually their child. When Angus saw the size of the "child", he thought his father must be terribly gigantic, and ran home terrified by destroying the pavement to avoid being chased.

The shed in O’Connell’s School yard had a strange graffiti on it. Behind the pillars someone had written, Warrenpoint 18 IRA 0. A lot of graffiti in Dublin was very confusing, Smash H Block, Support the Hunger Strikers, Up The Provos and Brits Out. But the Warrenpoint football score was a bit different. A sinister game being played out by both teams. It was a huge victory for the IRA, the killing of these 18 soldiers on a lonely road in County Down. This game had started a long time ago; nobody that was living saw the kick off but everybody now could feel the pressure of trying to win.
I’d watch the huge seagulls the size of cats land in the yard and eat anything that was left from the grey coloured pupils lunch break. Listening to Peig, a story about rural life in Ireland back in the 1800s being told by the teacher and the drone of his voice in Irish made me want to sleep. The teacher was speaking our national language and I hadn’t a clue what he was talking about.
“Teacher, why do we have to learn this? Nobody speaks that where I live. It’s a waste of time. Nobody speaks it. It won’t get us a job”.
This was a chorus our teachers had heard time and time again and he continued as if didn’t hear anything. Most of the class knew that we wouldn’t be going to Trinity of UCD but to get the dole. The points system had made sure of that.
During our Confirmation we drew these beautiful rising doves, these birds were different to the schoolyard full of white seagulls eating out of Tayto crisps bags thrown on the ground...
