Project 1 of 2 finally done! ✅
And I’m proud to say I did it ALL BY MYSELF bc waiting on @meghanishahzad was getting exhausting 😝
For the longest time I was SO confused on what to do with this wall bc there was so much space on just one side of the console (swipe to see before pic). Normally, I like things to be super balanced and even on both ends, but this gallery wall ended up being the perfect solution! It’s a definite #ShowStopper 😍
Transformations are our jam! Here is another one from the home of our designer @brennamhess . The living room in her home was really lacking natural light and there was a long blank wall between these two rooms so she had a double door installed to bring in light and brake up the wall.

Finally added some nightstands in our bedroom! I got these matching tables for $10 each on Facebook marketplace😍😍 I’m going to paint them and switch out the drawer knobs, but this is where I need opinions! Please check out my stories and vote for your faves! I really want to paint them a matte black with gold bar pulls. But I’m torn between that and distressed black and also wood stain. Once I strip the white paint off of these, I might want to leave them natural and either stick with the gold knobs or maybe even black knobs. Help me decide!!
We’re Roe + Joel (and Zula + Olive). Last week we moved from Seattle to the Oregon woods and into our first home. 🌲
Our house was built in the 70’s and has the fixtures to prove it. For our first house-work weekend we tore down just some of the wallpaper in here, (swipe to see what we were working with). Hopefully today we’ll finish removing the glue 🙄 prime and have our first painted room! 🌲
This is the first of endless projects. (Like, there’s actually wallpaper everywhere.) We look forward to sharing a lot of before and after pictures with you as we #diy as much of this house as we can. For now, back to our slow Sunday morning. ☕️

DIY Weekends 😍 || This dining space is one of our favorites. So simple yet so transforming!
Our bright @deVOL kitchens kitchen @thatchedcottagecotswolds has 3 windows and a half glazed door allowing lots of light in ... a little before and after the kitchen was very dated and with lots of wall cupboards was very dark so we rearranged the layout and added the #wallpanelling to give a cleaner fresher lighter feel .... I love a transformation don’t you ?
When we started this remodel, I was not planning on doing any work upstairs as there were very few design elements out of place upstairs compared to downstairs. As we geared into painting mode, it was becoming clear that the unit would feel inconsitant if we did not at least paint the usptairs. From there we changed out all the light fixtures, updated the bathroom mirror and shower plumbing fixtures.
My take away from all of this is if you want to give your bathroom a refresh without putting in a lot of work, try changing out the light fixture, or mirror, or even both. The room will immediately feel new!
°°Relocate Appliances°° We talk about this often 🎤 || Having the fridge and range across the aisle from each other in a galley kitchen creates a pinch point & eye sore! 🙈 Relocating the fridge (very easy!) allowed us to go from a 30" tight fridge to 36" full size fridge and we opened up the aisle.💃💃

It's crazy looking at the before & after of this space! This room is huge and now it finally feels like it. Our cozy modern farmhouse style keeps the room cozy while also making it clean and bright! We also picked out our new chandelier for this room!!! (Then it's just eventually getting out this sofa and replacing it with a white cloth one next). Swipe to see the before & the chandelier!>>>>

Hi there, and welcome to @fixupfix! If you’re following, THANK YOU. If you’re not...well...there’s only one way to fix that. ☺️ I figured I should probably introduce myself. I don’t post my own design work, or pictures of my kids, so sometimes I feel like this page is kind of impersonal...but there’s actually a real person behind these meticulously chosen transformations. 🤣 So here are a few little things about me:
1. I’m married to my highschool sweetheart, and we have two amazing teenage sons. The three of them mean everything to me. 👨👩👦👦
2. I’ve been into home design since I was a kid spending my weekends on real estate tours and in tile and carpet showrooms. My parents were house flippers before we called it house flipping.
3. I’m a magazine editor and freelance writer. ✏️ My specialties are (shock!) home design, lifestyle, and health. I’ve written for a lot of the biggies: @realsimple@countryliving@thisoldhouse@housebeautiful@hgtvmagazine@bhg etc.
4. In my next career, I’d really like to design kitchens. And renovate houses. At least my own! But for now, I’ll just live vicariously through the Real Designers of Insta. (And show off your amazing work for you.) ❤️
5. I love cooking and baking, and I ESPECIALLY love baking at Christmas. 🎄 I’ll admit that I’m terrible at decorating cookies. I start with big @marthastewart dreams, and end up with something that would shame a kindergartener. No matter, they taste good. 🍪 The last few years I’ve had fun making a fancy Buche de Noel. So you might see some of that obsession up in the stories next month.
I’d at least love to know about your favorite #beforeandafter projects. Kitchens? Baths? Bedrooms? Anything blue...with board-and-batten? Please tell me in the comments. I want to offer the inspiration you want and need. 😘

#TheCottageontheGreen had the most amazing original 1970’s firebrick flooring in the entry, hall, kitchen and breakfast nook. I wanted to save it, but also take down walls to lighten the mood & open things up. Because I didn’t have any more of the brick, though, I had to get creative in how that transition to the hardwood happened. Also, we found that we had to keep one column in place of one of the walls because of the intersecting load in the floor trusses above. So here’s what I designed for this cute breakfast nook- that now opens to the living room with bar seating, and opens into the dining area. By trading one of the walls for a storage cabinet, I was able to keep my flooring the same, add a support column, and still allow for open site lines and more natural light. Where there’s a will, there’s a way! 👍🏼 Happy Friday, friends!

I’ve been up since 3:30am (weird for me, because I’m usually a really good sleeper...like, I can sleep 10 hours a night, easy!) so I’m sitting here at work dreaming about crawling back into bed. 😴 And I’d like it to be a bed that’s as beautiful and inviting as the one in this bedroom designed by @splendorstyling. Starting with an essentially blank canvas, she created an elegant, tailored space by layering on texture within a strict black, white, and gray palette. The gorgeous grasscloth wallcovering sets the scene, helping the soaring space feel warm and intimate, and lending a subtle striped pattern for interest. The leather bed and shagreen bedside tables play up the tactile effect even more—and then there’s that plush faux-fur throw for an extra luxe touch. The chandelier emphasizes the ceiling height and adds a little bling, echoed in the symmetrical oblong mirrors. It’s not easy to create a design that’s at once rich and restrained, but this room knocks it out of the park on both fronts. .

On the countdown to completion day! 🙌🏻 and the more important countdown to getting the Christmas decorations up... I’m making a start on the festivities as soon as we are in 🎄

I will forever and always be amazed by what paint alone can do. Add a few select other touches and the outcome can be magical!
We kept all of the cabinets and counters at the Hidden Vines kitchen. A cabinet redesign would not have changed the effictiveness of the kitchen, and cabinets / counters can get pretty pricey. So we focused on what we could do. We painted them white. The same color we used throughout the rest of the unit. We then did an accent wall with our favorite grey to get the cabinets to pop, and add some depth to the room. Add new hardware, a classic white subway tile backsplash and a few shelves, and this room is hard to recognize.
That early morning sunlight✨ Send me your best care tips for fiddle leaf trees please! Mine is doing good so far, but with the weather getting ridiculously cold I want to make sure I take good care of him! Anyone else have a fiddle leaf fig plant? Share your winter plant care tips below ⇩
After removing 8 damaged recessed lighting cans from the ceiling above the dining table, these renovators took the opportunity to install oversized white pendants. And we can confirm that they still provide ample light for us to sit here and play I Spy in these incredibly well-styled shelves.

This kitchen came with a family of unwanted pets 🐀 What’s the craziest wild animal you’ve found in a 🏡 ? I have a friend who had an armadillo sneak into her shoe closet in the middle of the night... 🤯she is currently winning for the strangest animal encounters! Can you beat her?
Here's the Kitchen to the MCM Living Room we posted yesterday! 😍 || The old kitchen wasn't all that bad but it was still closed off and the layout was a bit odd.
Remember the dark living room walls from yesterday?? Check out the new kitchen beam--we repurposed the wall paneling to warm up the space 😊
They say the devil is in the detail and I say that can be as little as making sure you cover all the necessary modern amenities.
Here, at Hidden Vines, it meant the comfort of a tiny but well placed bathroom. Originally there was only one bathroom in the unit, and it was upstairs through the bedroom! We added a powder room downstairs next to the living room. It meant the fairly small living room became a little smaller but we think it was a necessary sacrifice for having a bathroom downstairs.
