Analyzing the Perception vs. Reality of Common Life Expenses - https://lnkd.in/gMmTeQf
Many people struggle to accurately estimate how much their home improvement projects will cost. To illustrate, an average of 78% of the people we surveyed underestimated how much it would cost to remodel a kitchen, based on average costs from HomeAdvisor. Many may underestimate because one renovation may turn up other necessary projects. Whether you just underestimate the project from the beginning, decide to fix other areas as part of the project or upgrade for more expensive materials, home improvements can exceed renovation budgets for many reasons. And sometimes the reason is simply not understanding how much labor and materials actually run for this type of project because it’s not every day that you remodel a kitchen.
The most underestimated home improvement project by cost was a kitchen remodel, underestimated by an average of $9,532. 🏠LOOKING TO BUY/SELL A HOME? Call/Text 510.798.5016 ● CalDRE #01988431 | www.carlosfcamargo.net
August 2019 Sales and Price Report - https://lnkd.in/gZA9JqN
August’s sales figure was down 1.3 percent from the 411,630 level in July and up 1.6 percent from home sales in August 2018 of 399,600. While cumulative sales through the first eight months of the year were down from last year, the pace of decline has improved significantly at -4.1 percent since the -12.5 percent recorded in January.
After a pullback in July, the median price rose from both the previous month and year and reached another record high in August. August’s median price was $617,410, up 1.5 percent from July and up 3.6 percent from $595,920 in August 2018, marking the fifth straight month that the median price remained above $600,000. The annual sales gain was the highest in the last 10 months. “Low interest rates, which helped to reduce monthly mortgage payments, have provided much-needed support to improve housing affordability and elevate home sales over the past few months,” said C.A.R. Senior Vice President and Chief Economist Leslie Appleton-Young. “While lower rates have no doubt boosted buyers’ purchasing power, they have also been a contributing factor to higher home prices this year.” 🏠LOOKING TO BUY/SELL A HOME? California’s Exclusive Electorate: A New Look at Who Votes and Why It Matters - https://lnkd.in/g9uKeJR
Download report: https://lnkd.in/gm_6jgR
If trends persist, only half of California adults will vote in the 2020 presidential election—with even fewer participating in the primary—and these voters will not reflect the views of the state’s population. What are the larger consequences of uneven participation rates and low voter turnout?
First, a relatively small group of voters is making decisions about elected representatives and public policy, which raises serious questions about the legitimacy of the democratic system. Next, because the haves in society are the frequent voters, and many of the have nots are not registered to vote or voting, the voting preferences in our elections do not reflect the broad economic and political interests of all adults. Taken together, California once again faces the prospect of an electorate making policy decisions that neglect the realities and problems facing large and growing segments of society.

Food and housing insecurity disproportionately affects students of color, according to the survey. Fifty-two percent of Black students receiving Pell or Cal Grant aid indicated housing insecurity, and 45 percent reported food insecurity. Students with dependents and students older than the age of 25 also faced higher levels of housing insecurity, higher expenses and feel less equipped to pay for college, according to the survey. 🏠LOOKING TO BUY/SELL A HOME? America's sweeping tide of diversity - https://lnkd.in/eCWjmDd
Nationally, Hispanics and Asian Americans are the fastest-growing racial minority groups, increasing by 18.6% and 27.4%, respectively, between 2010 and 2018, according to an analysis by the Brookings Institution demographer Bill Frey, whose 2018 book "Diversity Explosion" outlined the country's majority-minority future.
The map below appears to have large "white" areas where racial minorities are not highly represented. But these are small, less-populated areas where the white population is stagnating, per Frey's analysis.
Since 2010, 96% of all U.S. counties saw declines in shares of white population — and those declines aren't likely to be offset by white immigration from other countries or increased U.S. birth rates going forward. "In the next 5–6 years, we're going to see an actual decline in white population," Frey told Axios, noting the shrinking share of the white population since 2000 among children under the age of 18. "In the next 10 years or so, the 20-something population will become minority white. It's happening from the bottom up of the age structure." ● LOOKING TO BUY OR SELL A HOME? High land prices to blame for California’s extreme home values - https://lnkd.in/gVJ9cxq
California may as well be synonymous with expensive. Our high cost of living is infamous, and most to blame are the state’s high home prices.
Why are home values so high in California? With an envious climate and access to many high-paying and quality jobs, the Golden State is a nice place to live. But demand alone isn’t responsible for high home prices. More importantly, the price of land makes up an unequal share of home values across the state.
Eight out of ten of the top U.S. metros where land costs make up the highest share of total home values are here in California. ● LOOKING TO BUY OR SELL A HOME? Call/Text 510.798.5016 🏠 CalDRE #01988431 | www.carlosfcamargo.net
