A new male coalition arrived a week ago to Ndutu. Three males who like their predecessors have come from Ngorongoro Crater. It appears they have displaced the 4 boys that came from the Crater in November. This is probably bad news for Brenda and Babs young cubs, we are watching for them but no sign this week. It’s the drama of the lions world and our biologist team is watching. #njozicamp#bigcatsafari#bigcatresearch#lions#ndutu
Seldom visited by outsiders, yet unequivocally captivating, Ladakh is a place where tradition runs deep. Standing at 3,000 metres above sea level, this high plateau is one of the least-populated regions in the country, renowned for its remote mountain beauty and Buddhist culture. Time spent venturing through the austere wilderness and discovering ancient monasteries will leave you with an unforgettable experience.
Here you can follow the tracks of the elusive snow leopard through the stunning Himalayan mountains, all the while looking out for species such as the ibex, bharal, Himalayan wolf, Tibetan sand fox and golden eagle silhouetted against the stark landscape.
Our In Search of the Snow Leopard safari is no traditional safari, but with high altitude comes the chance of high reward. Click the link in our bio for more information.

A Secretary Bird with crest up - a mostly terrestrial bird of prey. Endemic to Africa, it is usually found in the open grasslands and savannah of the sub-Saharan region.
Yet another leopard at night ( one of my favourite type of shots). I had been waiting for this shot for a long time. During the day it was sleeping in the tree but the thought of tasty impala made it swing into action as darkness fell.
It is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red list because leopard populations are threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation, and are declining in large parts of the global range.
Baby cheetahs are blind at birth and are covered with a thick coat of fur that helps to protect them from predators. In the wild, they have a high mortality rate, with almost 90%, and it is considered that 50 to 75% of cheetah cubs die before they reach three months of age
One is known for its strength and ferocity, the largest of all big cats, an undisputed apex predator that inspires both fear and awe. The other is smaller, more agile, more elusive; but this particular feline has proven to be among the most adaptable of all carnivores.
Both tigers and leopards will feature in our 16-day safari to India and Sri Lanka, where travellers can hope to spot Asia’s most iconic big cats in the wild. Click the link in our bio to find out more.
While staying at the Mapula Lodge, an eco-minded camp running an ongoing leopard habituation programme in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. One morning we hear a black-backed jackal’s alarm cry and quickly go to investigate, finding a young female leopard prowling towards some tsessebe (antelope). She seems a little new to the hunting game, as the tsessebe can see her from a mile away and quickly dash off as soon as she gets close – however, we continue to track her through the bushes, straining to catch sight of the ripples of her flanks against the shadows. At one point she sticks her nose into a warthog burrow until only her tail is visible, flicking like an exotic snake; at another she enters a bush and a terrific, fearsome snarling ensues before she emerges looking sheepish, likely having disturbed a napping honey badger.

On our final morning on safari in the Khwai Private Reserve we witness the unbearable tension of a pride of eight lionesses and cubs spying on a herd of oblivious buffalo. They stand stock-still and watchful in the long grass, reminiscent of fierce statues guarding an Egyptian tomb. However, as the morning cool air starts to turn into unbearable midday heat the pride of lionesses give up on their morning hunt to find shelter under the trees, lying and watching their cubs play together. Removed of their earlier menace, it makes me think of mothers at the local park.

Taken recently on a Private Big Cat Safari in the Manyeleti Game Reserve. This male was one of 7 males feeding on a buffalo carcass, part of the Talamati coalition.
