We have areas on our #planet , possessing #water in various states, changing over #time due to the motion of the lithospheric plates. Liquid water is replaced by zones of “solid” water and vapor. The #interaction of the three states of water and their sediments proves the global #ocean level and #icecap volume to be a viable tool in researches.

Check out this amazing shot of some rough-toothed dolphins (Steno bredanensis) in Honolulu, Hawaii by @kimberlyswimberly! Who else could really use a cetacean sighting and a heavy dose of Vitamin-SEA?! 🐬🐬🐬
WHY ARE BEES IMPORTANT? 🐝 #Sustainability
In one word: pollination.
In two words: food production.
In three words: they are crucial.
So, here are the people who should want to protect bees: anyone who eats.
The way our ancestors produced food could be defined as what we now know as "organic farming". Today, "conventional agriculture" uses about 3 million tons of pesticides each year. Pesticides make bees dizzy, so that their mobility and habitual ability to orient are affected, which also causes unusual feeding behaviors. Obviously, their reproduction and development are also altered. Without bees, humans would have a lot of trouble producing the food we need (a third of what we eat depends on pollination); and the truth is that there has been a significant decline in the number of bee swarms since 1990s because of the pesticides we use on agricultural crops. Despite all this, there is still some hope for swarms in Europe, as the use of any pesticide that affects bees has recently been banned.
💛 Did you know bees were so important for our sustainability? Do you support organic farming? We want to know your thoughts, leave them in the comments 💛
Too many whales, specifically baleen whales are being hit by boats or ships .The fate of the whales is usually unknown as collisions too often go unreported and dead whales most often sink.
KEY POINTS TO AVOID COLLISION include: - Know that Humpbacks, and baleen whales in general, behave very differently than Orcas or other dolphins. They are bigger, highly acrobatic (HB's) and generally far more unpredictable. They are often travelling in random patterns and can suddenly surface after long dives (up to 20 minutes). They do not have the biosonar of toothed whales like Orca and can be oblivious of boats, especially if feeding or resting. It is extremely flawed to think that Humpbacks are aware of the presence of boats, even if engines are on. - Always be on the lookout for blows at all times. If you see blows, slow down. Speed should not be more than 7 knots when 200 to 400m from a whale.
- Increase vigilance in areas of known whale density.
- Be alert for aggregations of birds. This often means there is a lot of feed and thereby an enhanced chance of whale presence.
- Give whales space, at least 200m but consider whale size and behaviour for safe distance.
- If a whale surfaces within 200m of your vessel, place engine in neutral (or ideally shut off the engine) until the whales are beyond 200m.

Unprecedented changes are occurring across our planet’s ecosystems. Record-breaking temperatures year after year, dramatic shifts in precipitation cycles, changing weather patterns. Ever increasing consumer-driven demand is driving species to the brink of extinction through over harvesting and habitat loss. And yet we live in a time with unparalleled technological advances and the ability to communicate and connect with each other like never before! I hope these elements all come together to create the perfect storm of action. Action to protect our planet, and ultimately, our own species. I’ve been using this quarantine time to evaluate my own actions and choices. What can I do better? Where am I failing to make good choices for sustainability? It’s a daily struggle, but one I want to keep having. 🌎
A Danone Yoghurtfish (genus: plasticus pottus). These are an invasive species, responsible for the deaths of countless seabirds and marine animals every year, and through the wonders of the food chain parts of them may well end up in your friday night fish and chips takeout.
Recycling helps but isn’t the answer to the plastic problem. Changing attitudes, researching alternatives, and forcing companies to rethink their products is what will really make a difference; things are only going to really improve when innovation comes from the producer, not the consumer. Anyway that’s just my two cents, now someone pass me that müller corner.
Got a call from my uncle to come see the baby geese. By the time I showed up, they were tucked in. After waiting for a little while, getting hissed at by an adult, this little fella popped his head up to see what the commotion was. Photography is timing
Once in its lifetime the shopping trolley sprouts a pair of antenna for one purpose alone: to find a breeding partner. So sensitive are these appendages that they can smell the castor grease of a prospective mate from as far away as a mile. Once the necessary shunting has taken place the appendages drop off, and are gathered up by scavenging builders.

#WorldOceansDay is a day to celebrate and take action to protect our shared #blueplanet with fellow #ocean advocates. And while this June 8 might look a bit different for many, there are still plenty of ways to “gather” with the change-making community and help ensure a sustainable future!⠀
.⠀ @r.singblue invites you to celebrate the weekend before World Oceans Day by attending #Youthathon a 24-hour livestream event on June 6 & 7 that allows young people around the world the opportunity to learn, connect and take action to protect our shared ocean, climate, and blue planet!
