It's a common question that we get: Do ferrets bite?
The answer is yes, they do!
To different degrees and for different reasons. So the first thing you need to do when your ferret bite is to analyse the situation and see why he/she does it.
Ferrets communicate and play with their mouth and teeths! They can be really rought with each other because their skin is way tougher than our.
First thing : Do they have enough time outside their cage and stimulation everyday? A ferret will be more prone to bite hard when they lack some stimulation and play time because they have so much energy and want to play so bad! Be sure to always give them at leat 4 non consecutive hour of playtime everyday and to make their play space interesting for them. If their playfull bites are a bit rought for your skin, begin by playing with them with an indirect toy like a cat "fishing rod". This will help them pass their "high" of energy. Then you can play with them with your hands. When they bite TOO HARD you tell them a clear NO and stop the interaction. They want to play with you, if you stop the interaction when they bite too hard they will understand with time that bitting too hard mean no playing buddy.
We often see some ferrets nipping for attention. For them it's just a way to say: Hey buddy i am here let's play! Normally they don't nip really hard for that.
So it turns out that the beach excites Bentley the same way that him getting a bath or his nails trimmed does. He doesn’t like all the people around, he doesn’t like the sand up his nose, he definitely doesn’t like that the water looks normal but is salty... he’s not fond of all the dogs running around off leash. Just about the only thing he did like was the car ride 😂 That’s okay little buddy. Maybe you’ll be a forest dog!
You are guessing right!! Happy tongue out tuesday 👅
