I’m not Buddhist, but I will admit this has been one of the most beautiful place I’ve visited! The nature here is unbelievable, skies on the mountain makes the view and the drive a place to remember!! We already have a few Euros for our next trip 😉
"Your ultimate self awareness is unchangeable, radiant, clear, and vivid, like the cloudless sky." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ -Dr. Nida chenagtsang from "Weapon of Light: An Introduction to Ati Yoga Meditation" published by Sky Press 2017
You cannot help but be transported to a time when the place at which you stand at today in awe is transformed into what once was; brimming with peoples excited about their future - and just like you, in awe of what they see before them.
The Shomapura Mahavihara (Paharpur) was once the greatest Buddhist monastery south of the Himalayas. The mound in the foreground was a great shrine with a magnificent stupa. After it was abandoned, the sands of time buried the superstructure and slowly converting it into a hill - until it was excavated during the Raj.
I'm a beach girl through and through and will almost always choose warm weather over cold weather, but this mountain town in India was one of my favorite stops of the 20 or so cities we visited. After feeling hot for five months straight, I relished the cooler temperatures and the unique Tibetan flavor of this awesome town. #mcleodganj#india#dharamsala#tibet#buddhist#mountains#travelingfamily

#LyudmilaPavlichenko was the deadliest sniper of WWII, killing 187 fascists within her first 75 days in the soviet army, and totaling #309ConfirmedKills . The nazis knew her as " #LadyDeath ". When she first applied to be in the Soviet army, they encouraged her to be a nurse. She insisted, they gave her an "audition" to demonstrate her shooting skill and the argument was over.
She said "You must kill fascists immediately, or you will have no end to trouble." When she was promoted after killing nearly 200 Nazis in under 3 months of service, her acceptance speech was short & sweet: "I'll get more."
When she was accompanied by Eleanor Roosevelt to encourage americans to join the Russians in killing actual Nazis instead of Japanese women & children, one reporter criticized the uniform Pavlichenko wore, claiming that it made her look "fat." Reporters asked if she was allowed to wear makeup on the battlefield.
Pavlichenko was baffled & frustrated by this. "I wear my uniform with honor. It has the Order of Lenin on it. It has been covered with blood of my enemies in battle." She challenged American women to fight for their gender equality, and claimed that the American army should follow the Red Army's example in having neither a color line nor segregation.
In Chicago, Pavlichenko famously urged the men in the large crowd to support the second front. "I am 25 years old and I have killed 309 fascist occupants by now. Don't you think, gentlemen, that you have been hiding behind my back for too long?"
Some will no doubt persecute & scold me for being a Buddhist & celebrating a woman who took the lives of 309 men. Lyudmila would correct you by reminding us that she killed fascist mass murderers, not men - and saved hundreds of thousands if not millions of innocent lives by doing so, not to mention paving the way for women who wanted to fight as soldiers in the military.

There's a lot of crows around my new office. I love watching them drop nuts into the road to crack them. Realizing how intelligent they are makes you realize that all sentient beings have internal lives. Sometimes we get so caught up as the center of our universe that we don't realize that everyone around us is caught up in their own universe. Take some time and just realize that everyone you see today has a depth of experience as vast and deep as yours. It's overwhelming. It's beautiful. #namoamidabutsu .

A goshuin is a #seal#stamp given to visitors and worshippers in #Shinto shrines and #Buddhist temples, usually marking the date and the location.
I've been fond of #Japanese shrines for as long as I can remember, and so in every #temple I've been to I've kept on looking for signs to get one (looking for advanced #Kanji without being able to read it is a challenge). While wandering around #MeijiJingu I came across a crowd that seemed to be looking for a place to get their shuins too, followed them around, and ended up with one of my own!
I tried to contain my happiness.
Now I know where to get one the next time!
五百円 well-spent! ♥️ #TressedTravelsTokyo
There is only the One Mind and not a particle of anything else on which to lay hold,
for this Mind is the Buddha.
If you students of the Way do not awake to this Mind substance,
you will overlay Mind with conceptual thought,
you will seek the #Buddha outside yourselves,
and you will remain attached to forms, pious practices and so on,
all of which are harmful
and not at all the way to supreme knowledge.

The reincarnation system (tulku), a distinguishing characteristic of Tibetan Buddhism, is based the theory that Buddha's soul never vanishes, but reincarnates in succession to lead his followers and to accomplish his mission. One of first reincarnations among the Buddhist monks in Tibet is Karma Pakshi. In 1193, before Dusum Chenpa, the first Karmapa of the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, passed away, he told his disciples that he would return as a reincarnated being. His disciples soon led a search for his infant reincarnation in accordance with his will. Several years later, Karma Pakshi turned out as the first reincarnation in Tibet and trained to be Karma Kagyu leader. After Karma Pakshi's reincarnation, the reincarnation system was adopted by other sects gradually to keep a consistent religious leadership. By applying the system, heirs for hundreds of Gyalwas (Living Buddhas) were selected, among whom the Dalai Lama and the Panchen Lama are the most prestigious.
Religious methods and rituals are used to identify a reincarnation of a late high lama. A search party headed by another high lama begins the search. After a religious retreat, lamas, dispatched in disguise, scour Tibet for special signs: new mothers who had unusual dreams, children who have special knowledge without being taught, and special physical traits, such as big ear lobes. The lamas refer to oracles, portents, dreams and the late lama's prophesy in order to aid them in their search. Some lamas are sent to Lhamo Latso, the Oracle Lake, to look for prophetic visions to help locate thereincarnation. Usually, dozens of candidates are sought. They will be tested with the late lama's possessions; those who have amazing knowledge in identifying their predecessor's belongings win and become the final candidates. Since the search could be easily manipulated and dispute occurs, Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty decided to use a gold urn lottery as a divination to eliminate false candidates. The names and birth dates of the final candidates are written on ivory lots, wrapped up and sealed in the urn.
