Hello and Welcome Back to French Road! The Blue Birds had fun decorating our front sidewalk with chalk this morning. While they were coloring they found some rocks, ants, spiders and even a few worms! The children watched birds flying and we even saw a deer across the street!! What an exciting day outside! ❤️ #cheektowaga#buffalo#edukids
Group photograph of the 1st NY Dragoons with their flag, taken in Buffalo, New York around the turn of the century.
The Dragoons, another word for light cavalry or mounted infantry, were recruited from Allegany, Wyoming and Livingston Counties in Western New York. They were originally mustered in as the 130th NY Infantry but were converted to cavalry in July of 1863. They were then called the 19th NY Cavalry for a short time before being renamed the 1st Regiment of Dragoons.
They were originally assigned to the Army of the Potomac but were later moved to the Army of the Shenandoah to fight under General Sheridan. They fought in 64 battles altogether and were mustered out on June 30, 1865.
