Looking at my feed I feel as though there’s the need to show off some food or something, but the reality of the last week has been that every day has been so full that eating has been for fuel more than anything, so we hope to have more beautiful dining pictures shortly.
For now, we’ve both finished work for the day and are relaxing in the garden before a barbecue later on. The rain we have been hoping for should be here by the end of the weekend, and today we found ourselves buying fleece to wrap some of our more tender plants in over winter. That wood is going to be very useful sooner rather than later I think 🤔
What are you all up to this fine evening?
We are a few steps closer to finalising our bathroom and cloakroom suites 💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼 (that’s a happy dance) and only just realised the @catchpoleandrye workshop, where all the magic happens, is just 5 mins down the road from us!!
Head to our Stories for the grand tour. It felt such a privilege to go behind the scenes and we can’t wait to head back to help chose the final finish of our bespoke brass toilet cistern! As you do. ☺️
I just genuinely love everything this company stand for. Such wonderful family values. Experiences like this, which we get to share with our kids, are the parts of our project we’ll remember fondly forever. 💛

We're so close to the big reveal! Can you tell how happy and excited we are?
These past few weeks, it's just been Cal and I working away on the roof - no more friends volunteering, as we're not hosting many people in the autumn when the weather will be much more unpredictable.
Today we start the BIG dig for our attenuation tank. This is a planning stipulation that we have to fulfil as we didn’t have enough space on site for a soak-away which must be 5 meters from your property and any public highway. The tank will be able to hold a 1 in 200 year storm’s worth of rain and will be discharged into the sewer through a flow rate valve at a rate of no more than 2 litres per second. Basically this amounts to a very large and extremely expensive hole, oh what fun and joy 🤑☀️ 🌈 🦄 .

GLOBAL CLIMATE STRIKE
We stand in solidarity with everyone taking part in the Global Climate Strike. Inspired by Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, people across the world will take time off work and school today, September 20, 2019, to join this global event.
It’s going to be one of those days. (Preparing Slow cooker dinners if you’re wondering) As it goes we started on the flooring then measure along the corridor to see how it’s going to join..... one of the stud walls is out by 20mm as they’d bodged it. So we’ve had to rip a section out and redo it. 1 step forward 3 steps backwards. (Choosing to go down the cheaper hire subcontractors route is proving to be a right pain in the *ss) #selfbuild#renoproblems#doyourjob#upsanddowns#buildingthedream#granddesigns

Our utility worktops finally went on yesterday. 🙌🏻
We opted for Bianco Zeus (polished) by @silestonebycosentino in a super slim 20mm thickness, which I love!
There are two matching full width shelves to go above, on brass brackets. Then just a 2nd coat of paint on the walls and painting the window board and skirting to do. Oh yeah - skirtings and architraves have started going on now too!! 😁
So happy with how it’s coming along in here. Another awesome job by the guys at Carrara Marble Co. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

Someone’s happy the ceiling joists are boarded! If you’ve seen my stories this week you’ll have heard me acting like a Shrew nagging at Jim to ‘get down’ ‘be careful’ as he’s taken to scampering about like a blimmin squirrel on the roofs of the extensions..... Now the thing is I really don’t like heights so it makes me really nervous particularly when before the boards were up and the ceiling joists were finished I came into the garden to find him walking along the steel! He is taking pleasure out of winding me up for sure 😆..... You know what though, after the stresses of the last couple of weeks when there have been plenty of ‘what have we done’ moments it’s a miracle that the shrew and squirrel are still talking!.... So I think I’ll leave him to happily carry on on the roof and I’ll just sit inside sipping gin then everyone’s happy 😊🤣

Weeks 19-20: So we have been away on a refreshing cruise holiday for the last 2 weeks. It was amazing just to get away from everything and spend time with the fam.
While we were away it seems like things have been progressing in most areas. Basins, toilets and taps are all in. Master bath tub is now. Just waiting on shower screens and grouting to be finished. Main bath- we are still waiting on shower screen and bath to be installed. All lights are in. The garage has been built. Now just waiting for framing for roof. Hopefully it doesnt rain tomorrow because they are scheduled to do it then. Wardrobe shelves are in.
Some of the plaster/frame issues are now sorted. We are still arguing about a door frame that is out of plum. He recons its ok but you dont need a level to tell you that its not 😔. #charlton36#porterdavishomes#buildingthedream
There’s so much power in this sign. I’ve been practicing dreaming bigger and pushing myself to help as many people as possible and getting outside of my comfort zone. I realize there are so many people who are tired of killing them selves for someone else. If you are interested in waking up when you are done sleeping, working from wherever your cell phone brings you and helping others achieve their dreams then send me a message. #arbonne#entrepreneur#timefreedom#financialfreedom#buildingthedream#godgetstheglory
Always feels like there’s progress when there’s been a few trades on site!
Eventually the front porch/veranda has commenced! 🙌🏻 I’m half excited half nervous for it - On one hand it completes the facade (other than lights and new door) but it’s gone so long without it now I’m worried adding it could be a mistake 😬 hoping it pays off! .

THEY SAY A PICTURE PAINTS A THOUSAND WORDS? This picture represents my day... focus on the details...
Let’s start with the beer, it’s through necessity rather than desire because the sun is out, you see I’ve had “one of those days”..... you know the kind. .
Notice the paint... unopened because the decorator text me at 9am to say he wasn’t coming as promised it would now be next Thursday 🙄. .
Work, well let’s just say there’s a couple of games of politics going on which I don’t wish to be part of. .
I had a hospital appointment, the car park was rammed and as a result someone left their dad to park their brand new Cactus (strangest car ever) he stalled it trying to get it in reverse and couldn’t get it started again for a full 15mins 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ holding up a 1 way carpark for 20mins - I’m not exaggerating.
The book.. well that’s from @boconcept_manchester and I got that idea from @ourhomeinspain and now I’m destressing getting my inspo on with a cold one with my doors open and letting all that bad energy go 🙌🏼
How’s your day been?
We’ve ordered the encaustic bathroom tiles!
Toying with the idea of a much darker colour for the main bathroom now, to really set off the brass bateau tub.
We had been playing it safe with Ammonite (the same as our hallway and landing) but I think we are being a bit wimpy with that and now considering Down Pipe on the walls AND ceiling, à la @abigailahern instead.
Thinking this will make the gold pop and have more of a luxe feel.
Other suggestions welcome!
Think.....fancy chandelier, drinks trolley, brass bath of dreams and brushed brass fittings, taps and heated towel rail. 🤩

The end of day four of week four and the huge pile of earth outside the back door has magically disappeared ✨
I went out to Pilates this morning and when I came back, the base of the extension had been covered over in pink gravel (fancy) and had been tamped down to form a smooth base.
They’ve begun covering this over with insulating board, and in turn that will be covered over tomorrow with concrete.
The steels have also been ordered and they will be arriving tomorrow and (apparently) the first steel will be put into place 😝
It’s totally amazing watching this process; our builder is so old school in the way that he works. It’s lovely to watch 😊
And the Velux is in!
It hit us as we were putting this in: this is the very first window installed in our restoration!
I have complete faith in myself and Cal, and I really do believe we will see this project through. But sometimes, it's hard to actually imagine. We put so much work into the place, but the finish line is still very far away, and it's hard to see it becoming a reality.
It may seem like a very little step to some, but little changes like this really make this project feel REAL, and remind us that our dream IS coming true!
Little by little.

Okayyy, I'll give you guys a sneak peak of the roof while we finish up the slating!
Last week, I was getting a bit frustrated with the rain, which had, yet again, barred us from safely working on the roof.
Cal knew exactly how to cheer me up. He took me up the hill to see our progress from the road.
I had just seen the slates from up close (they look amazing up close as well!) But this new perspective really hit me: our house was going to have a beautiful new roof on it in the next few weeks! This was really happening, and MAN does it look GOOD!
It was an incredible way to brighten my spirits!
In other news: my laptop has died a miserable death, and until I figure out how to fix it, I'm afraid our Instagram posts will be slowing down :( This is the last of my photos uploaded to the cloud, and now I need my laptop to get new content off my SLR!
The wonderful thing about backing onto the woodland, is you can see the seasons changing before your very eyes!
The leaves on the trees are definitely turning an orange shade which at the moment, complements the Siberian Larch cladding beautifully!
I do look forward to watching this silver and grey over the years though, more my colour palette!
