The 12th of the 12th 2019 – exactly 12 weeks into our #buslife adventure. I feel like assessing our "project" so far and compare reality and experiences we have made to the dreams and hopes we had when we left Victoria.
1. We wanted more time together.
2. We wanted to have warmer weather.
3. We wanted to work less.
4. We wanted to connect to each other and to nature.
5. And more practically: We wanted more down time and relax. Scott wanted to surf and play guitar. We wanted to go for lots of hikes, explore new regions and go to the beach often as a family. I wanted to have time for myself for self-reflection, meditation and the arts.
Did we get all this? Or some of it? How did it all turn out so far? Here are some thoughts that I would like to share with you:
1.) We definitely spent heaps more time together. It has been an absolute blast experiencing so much together as a family. Or the really little things like grocery shopping. We went together to do this. All of us! And we had time for it. We didn’t need to rush and “quickly get it done”. We could take our time and slowly walk through the aisles. This was such an incredible feeling when I realized it. I can still remember how happy it made me and how at ease I felt in that shopping center in Cairns. I don’t usually feel like that in shopping centers. I feel overwhelmed by all the colours, the artificial light and people and noises and I just want to get out of there. But this time I enjoyed it. Because I didn’t have to do anything afterwards, I didn’t have to rush to the next appointment or pick up the kids or anything like that. We were all together and we had time. Something that has never happened in our “old life”. One of us would do the groceries while the other one was fulfilling something else on our never ending to do list. So “yes – we got more time together.” 2.) And this is a quick one: Yes, we got warmer weather. Sometimes too warm actually. But I guess weather is always something that you can complain about. Especially in the bus. The heat is hard to deal with even though we have an aircon, insulation and a fan. But it still gets pretty hot in here.

RADFAM Skoolie 002 - First Things First, is live on the blog! (Link in bio)
We’re going to release these blog posts pretty rapidly over the next month or two. I hope that they can serve the skoolie community as a resource to help solve common problems, bring up things people may not@have thought about or to spark new ideas on builds in process 👊
002 is all about our approach to starting our build, for us that meant NO BUILDING until mechanics and structure was in the best shape possible. We wanted to build a bus that would last, something we could count on ❤️ #skoolie#skoolieconversion#skooliebuild
After 8 months of bus life we made a few upgrades to our tiny home on wheels. This one is definitely our favorite! No more crawling under the bed to find things!

We bought a bus!😁 This is the first big step towards our goal of traveling the US while living a creative lifestyle.🎨 We have a lot of plans for this conversion and will be documenting each step on @bitchenbus
Our hope is that this page inspires people to go out there and explore in a time where most of our life is taken up by the buzz of technology and the pressure of social acceptance.🌍
Winter passed her healthy breath test for the state of Colorado and she weighs 19,620 lbs completely stripped. Went to get her tags and they wouldn't issue them because the school district didn't put an L at the end of the word school, on the title. Seriously?! 🙄
I’ve had so much fun decorating our bus to fit the seasons and holidays this year! We designed our bus to have plenty of storage, so there’s enough space under the bed for a container of decor items that I can cycle through during the seasons. When downsizing, there’s just some things you don’t want to give up...and you know what, that’s totally fine! Of course we had to sacrifice in other aspects such as downsizing our closet, or kitchen appliances, but when you build your home around what makes you happy, that’s the best! We’ve officially hit our 1 year milestone of living in this bus and oh boy has this been one heck of a year! So thankful for this lifestyle, and all of the amazing opportunities and friends it has gifted us with. ❤️ (PS- if you want to see all of our Christmas decor in detail check out our stories today!)
Trying to stay positive today. About a week ago we got stuck in the mud on our friends property in Arizona. It took about a week of creative problem solving to finally get it out of the hole! But unfortunately in the process something broke - and we are currently stuck in neutral. Trying to get a tow from a rural area to the nearest truck center without it costing a fortune is proving to be quite the odyssey. Here’s to hoping Appa can get towed today and get all fixed up before Christmas! #skoolielife#schoolbusconversion#buslife#vanlife#tinyhousekitchen#skooliekitchen#lifeintheslowlane

Well I just realized today is 1 month since the bus was delivered and I moved in. It's gone by surprisingly fast, but I also wonder if that's partially due to losing mom shortly after moving in.
I decided on the pic of the bed for this post because thus far it's the most "completely done" thing in the bus haha. Every day I spend living in the bus is every day I realize I need something I never thought of. 🤣
There has been a lot of unexpected things that have happened since the day I moved in. A lot of unexpected repairs and fixes that have kept me "stuck". The most unexpected thing to me has to be how much I can't wait to leave. Not even to get to somewhere specific, just to get anywhere new. Also preferably somewhere warmer LOL
Even with all the unexpected, all the things that don't work as they should, and my wildly out of control emotions... I have 🅾️ regret about choosing to live this way of life. Is it inconvenient when the water won't work properly so you have to mess with it for 20 minutes just to make coffee? Absolutely fucking yes!! But it's also completely worth it. In just a months time I've already learned that I have to train myself to be more deliberate about the things I do, and the time I spend on certain people or problems. Slowly but surely...
Here's an uplifting little story. So we were driving through Alabama and came to Guntersville. We were driving through downtown and our interest was peaked. "Ohh this is a cute little town, we should stop here for the night and check it out," we agreed. We found a nice spot to park by the lake. Over the past day, we have had kind messages on social media saying "welcome", "how long are you in town", etc. Very sweet. Then today a detective came by and surprised us by saying, "You guys caused quite a stir in town! Welcome! Is there anything you need?" Usually when law enforcement stops by, it's to tell you to move along, so this was just very cool. We had a great conversation, he gave us lots of tips for things to do around town, then told us of a great place we could park on the water. Now here we are, at one of the coolest places we have parked this old bus. Thank you, Guntersville, for this awesome welcome. You are a beautiful little surprise along our route that we never anticipated! #artwethereyet#guntersville#harbor#alabama#travel#buslife#busconversion#aerial#aerialphotography#lifeontheroad #

Forever thankful for you 💕
When I flicked the idea out there that we could live in a bus and travel Australia, Tom was intrigued. He had only ever seen Vans travelling Australia and couldn’t imagine feeling like we had a comfortable work/sleep/cooking space. When I showed him the first Courtesy bus done converted for living it finally hit him just how good this lifestyle could be 👌🏼
We were in Spain at the time on our Adventuremoon and had already pencilled in that when we returned home we would convert a Bus to live in for 6 months, 1 year or 3 years - who knows! ☺️
Cue the big beautiful Sunny girl coming into our lives ☀️
We just adore this life we have created and worked hard to achieve. Don’t see this post and assume we got all of this easy. We worked our asses off to build our cosy little home and it turned out to be one of the best things we’ve ever done 💕
I hope that you can make the most of your life xx

Decorating my own little home (for the very first time ❤️) has allowed me to reflect on the past few holidays seasons and it makes me a bit emotional... it was not too long ago that I was without a home, without family to celebrate, and without much hope. I want everyone who is struggling with the holiday season for whatever reason to know, that this season belongs to you more than anyone else. You deserve to be fully engulfed by the love of the season. Your journey does not end where you currently are, and what a beautiful thing that is. If you feel your darkness lurking, reach out. And everyone who's found themselves in a place surrounded with love like myself this year, extend your kindness and invitations to your pals who might not have the same. Truth is no one has it all together and everyone's a bit lost so damn it lets be jolly together. 🎅🥂 if anyone needs a friend, shoot me a message! Happy holidays. 🌟 #feelinggrateful
A very big thank you to the Hart and Mini family who extended their love and invitations to me when I didn't have a place to go in holidays past.

Tiny living, tiny tree (swipe🎄). Today is bittersweet because we leave LUCKY girl here in AZ as we fly home to Massachusetts for the holidays. It feels like this little bus is a part of me! It makes me realize that she really is home. Where is home (geo location) for you?? Comment and let's see how much of the globe we cover! ⛄

This crapper cost us a pretty penny but after 8 months of putting it to the test, we are really glad we made the investment.
Highly recommend it, also highly recommend very closely monitoring the pee bucket. 🤪 side note: Potty training should be pretty interesting." - @numberjuanbus
