A scratched cornea isn't exactly something I can oil. (Oils don't go in eyes--please don't do that.) So, I couldn't help but laugh when her response to the doctor's offer of eye drops was: "But my mommy brought my 'indigo oil,' and that will make me feel much better!" 😅

I am not a Micro Influencer... but if I was I would say you all should go to @ocwinnipeg this weekend and check out the great deals. Especially at Nike and Winners! You can always find some hidden gems at both of those stores and many others @ocwinnipeg
I often refer to my 8yr old as a fireball. He is great at delivering parental challenges which can be very difficult to manage at the end of a working day or on a weekend when you are trying to unwind. The concept of 'take the kids out to run off their steam' often has the reverse effect with this one. Give him a challenge however that combines both physical and higher cognitive functioning and the world is a more manageable place.
Recently, at a park he decided that annoying his siblings was more fun than riding his scooter. I refused to create another scene so I took a deep breath to defuse my frustration and I invited him over to lie next to me. Surprisingly, he accepted the offer. I then directed him to focus on sounds. He began identifying all that he could hear and alerted me to sounds that I had not tuned into. In less than 5 minutes he was calm and leant towards me for a hug. Following this he proceeded to do handstands and cartwheels with his sister ..... cooperatively! As we left I commented on how I enjoyed our afternoon together. My 8 yr olds response? "Me too. My favourite was lying down listening to the sounds. It helped me to calm down". My belly quietly filled with joy as I heard this and gave me hope that one day he will be able to self-regulate his emotions. I don't always get it right and I sometimes feel like I have failed as a parent and am a fraud in my work. It's moments like these however that give me hope and encourage me to keep going.

Everything we do, every direction we go, every decision we make are all based on what emotion is behind the wheel. Letting a negative emotion drive you may seem powerful, but you will find yourself broken down and out of gas much sooner than with a positive one. •
Your determination driven by anger or fear will never get you as far as the determination of joy and trust. •
We have the power to choose. Why not choose happy?

Photo by Hideyuki Katagiri "On a spring day, I visited Seiunji Temple, which is near the area where I live. It is known for its centuries-old cherry trees. I was taking a rest when a tree with an interesting trunk caught my interest. Then I noticed a second cherry tree; I could see them—one above the other. I think it makes the photo more glamorous." Available as a chromogenic photograph framed or unframed in sizes up to 1.0m.
