Hello and welcome to theworkplacephysio!
I'm Michael Nolan, a physiotherapist-turned workplace health professional based in Canberra, Australia. I work in an unconventional yet innovative role in the Australian water industry - as a Health and Work Fitness Coordinator.
You may be aware of the increasing burden of highly preventable chronic diseases and injury in Australia and around the world. Well, you will soon see that I am convinced that the workplace is a key lever for combating all of this and improving the health of individuals, population groups, our nation and others around the globe.
I created theworkplacephysio to start more open conversation and share what I hope will be interesting and practical opinion, experience and evidence on the topic of the workplace and health.
So I invite you to join me on the journey, participate in the discussion, spread the word and take it to your workplace for everyone's benefit!

We have now begun filling our first developmental hives with rescued stingless bees! With a massive amount of work continuing to be done behind the scenes by our research and development team, we have taken a small step forward in alternative stingless bee hive materials. These hives are constructed from commercial waste and other urban by-products as a source of carbon sequestration for regenerative practice in beekeeping. We are looking to provide low cost, high quality hives as this material can be drilled, cut, screwed and moulded. As of our latest testing we were able to attain a temperature greater than 800 deg celcius on the material surface and dissipate that heat through the 20mm of substrate to a temperature of 30 deg celcius on the opposite surface. This means our hives can be in direct sun and likewise frosts to regulate temperature easier! We hope to achieve much better results so as to further the effectiveness of housing bees in bushfire prone areas and their use in rehabilitation.

From a new Constable in 1985 to the Chief Police Officer for the ACT, CPO Ray Johnson has dedicated more than half of his life to policing.
As the Chief, he values the community he lives in and the important role it plays in helping police solve crime. He is also incredibly proud to lead a group of amazing and dedicated people who work tirelessly, in an often thankless role, to protect and serve the Canberra community, each and every day.
Here’s why he wears the badge... #whyiwearthebadge#topcop#actpolicing#canberra#communitypolicing#CBRcops#canberrapolicing

Back to work at the office this morning 🗂
I’m so in love with this shot by @razzytee for @c_news_media that we took in December for a very exciting something coming soon!
Sadly, this thick smoke is becoming all too familiar in Canberra at the moment. 😷
Unfortunately the Bureau of Meteorology says it’s likely to remain for a few days.
The advice from ACT Health is to stay inside where possible. @dronewithmerch took this pic of a barely-visible Telstra Tower.
Stay safe out there Canberra.
