Hey, y’all! @aliciayoungart here! So excited to be a part of the teacher takeover creative challenge!
About the prompt : Aaria gave me the very fun prompt of “cupcake,” which I was thrilled about! I wanted to paint a cute, nervous cupcake wondering if the girl wants to be friends or has a sweet tooth! I love integrating humor and art whenever I can - smiles and laughter are gifts from God! I used layers of acrylic paint on cold press watercolor paper for this piece -gotta love that texture!
About my art journey: It’s been quite the adventure! I was raised in an incredibly artsy home, and my parents (check out @gary.templin and @artsmartartschool to see some of their art!) opened an art school in my childhood home when I was 10 years old. I still love visiting and teaching at Art Smart to this day! I received my BFA Painting degree from the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, where I learned a ton about traditional painting methods. I began illustrating Children’s books after graduating, and that’s what I still love doing. I’m learning and growing every day! I just want every piece I create to glorify God and point people to Jesus- He is the reason for it all! *John 3:16* My fave art supplies: I love acrylic paint, textured watercolor paper, liquid watercolors and @tombow pens, as well as painting in Procreate on my iPad!
More fun to share: I love hiking and exploring new areas, as well as taking photos of animals and flowers whenever possible! Having the opportunity to teach and work with the adorable kids at my church is also a huge blessing!
A helpful art tip!: Utilizing a variety of contrasts in your artwork will really increase visual interest. Try to contrast light vs dark shapes, soft vs hard lines, cool vs warm colors, and more! This will instantly draw in the viewer, and it’s just plain fun to paint! God bless y’all! ...
