It's those last hundred and five #steps that will kill you. this was high atop #Colognecathedral , after you climb up the 533 steps of a stone spiral staircase within the wall of the #cathedral itself, they have this metal #spiralstaircase going up to the very top area.
If you're still alive at the top, you're rewarded with amazing views of cologne, the #RhineRiver and the whole surrounding #rhine region, all the way to the border of #Poland .
I always like to climb any #cathedrals whenever I'm visiting European cities, for the exercise and for the good #views .
This was just one fun excursion on my Viking #rivercruise down the Rhine River. #myvikingstory .
As always, pics taken with my #Sonyactioncam .
In late August, 2017, our honeymoon trip took us through beautiful Trondheim, Norway, where we were blessed with warm & sunny weather—certainly rare at those latitudes during the tail end of summer. The city’s famous cathedral certainly didn’t disappoint—this photo of the west façade was taken as the sun set behind me, yielding a lovely, warm light 🌅 ~~~~~~~ Nidaros Cathedral is the northernmost medieval cathedral in the world and is the traditional location for the consecration of new kings of Norway.
It was built over a long period of 230 years, from 1070 to 1300, when it was substantially completed; however, additional work, additions, and renovations continued intermittently and wasn’t fully finished until 2001.
After the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century, it was taken from the Catholic Church by the newly reformed established state Church of Norway in 1537, becoming Evangelical Lutheran.
