Sweater Weather is here! Stay snuggled, my friends.
So, you love my sweet disposition, my silky hair, long ears and doe-eyes. Sure... but did you know that thanks to hundreds of years of bad selecting breeding by humans (breeders and puppy mills), my breed is prone many health issues (Annie and I suffer from those with an *): .
MVD (Mitral Valve Disease)*
CM (Chiari Malformation)*
…and many more
Oh, but you REALLY want a purebred Cavalier (or Pug, Bulldog, Husky, Shih Tzu, etc.) don’t you? And you think going to a responsible breeder would guarantee you a healthy doggie, don’t you? Did you know breeding practices usually come with little research into the male and female’s family health history resulting in purebred dogs having more health conditions than a mixed breed? A “responsible breeder” should always provide documentation that the puppy’s parents and grandparents have been medically evaluated in an effort to breed those problems out of their puppies. (This will include testing for genetic diseases for which there are valid testing protocols available). These breeders are rare and scarce! Such a rarity nowadays!
Just one more reason to avoid at all cost buying a doggie from a pet shop, online, or even a breeder. There are hundreds of “purebred” dogs at rescue organizations (@cavrescuefl@thecavalierrescue@cavalierrescuetrust@cavalieralliance ) and at shelters. Please find your furever best friend there... ADOPT and RESCUE! Do NOT SHOP! There is no valid reason to buy a dog. Not now. Not ever. .
