In this second part of our six-part series, we pause to search our hearts and ask the urgent ancient questions, again. Walter Brueggemann, an Old Testament scholar and our guide into the wilderness, offers the deep lament and reorientation required. "I think we have to have a great national reckoning about our racism…we will not get past our violence until we do that. The healing of our nation, I suspect, requires that," says Walter.
Let's meet another One in a Million recipient out of the Pittsburgh community! At a time when the Coronavirus pandemic was at its highest uncertainty, Chadwick Taylor, a nurse, volunteered to go to NYC and help those on the front line. He raised thousands of dollars, took tons of donations, and took his kind heart to help NYC. Thank you, Chadwick. You are truly One in a Million! #pittsburgh4good#oneinamillion#multiplyinggood#pittsburgh pa #celebrategood #helpers

Today is the Superbowl of milk! It’s the 20th anniversary of #WorldMilkDay and the official kickoff to #JuneDairyMonth . .
During times of crisis, the need for reliable, nutritious food skyrockets. Our family farm-owners and employees have stepped up to launch the Farmers Feeding Families Fund to provide essential support and nutritious dairy products to food banks across the country. .
All month long, we’re encouraging people to share what they’re grateful for on social media using the hashtag #GallonsOfGood . .
For every post that uses #GallonsOfGood , we’ll donate $1 to the Farmers Feeding Families Fund to help food banks across the country purchase and distribute dairy products to those in need. .
Help us get the word out to your friends and family! Click the link in our bio for more info.

Ache leads to awakening. Or can. If we let it. All is not as it should be. We admit. And awaken to our role to make it so. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Meet Peggy Schlegel, a One in a Million Award recipient out of Pittsburgh! Peggy is a mail carrier who's always cheerful and thinking of others. We recently learned that in the midst of this tough time, while working daily in a high-risk essential service job to make sure we all get our mail, Peggy donated her recent monetary gifts from customers to an online cause called Chadwick's Medical Fundraiser on Facebook. How awesome! Thanks, Peggy, for always thinking of others even when your job puts you in harm’s way. #pittsburgh4good#oneinamillion#multiplyinggood#pittsburghpa #celebrategood#helpers
Today’s heroes- this beautiful soul is just one of the thousands of incredible lives led that ended in this tragedy through multiple fractures of systems, illness and more. This amazing face loved. She created. She grew. She raised families, she made waves we probably will never know. She represents so many that have been taken by #covid_19 she represents so many that haven’t had the chance to celebrate their lives lived, haven’t had to chance to tell their stories, but they have sure helped change perspective and how we can all do more to make sure that we are looking at them, looking up to them, visiting them when we can, learning from all they have to teach us, and loving them harder, with more respect, more soul, more everything. I’m so sorry that so many of you have suffered, but I sure wish you could know how much you have changed and inspired in others. This goes to you. We will not forget you. We love you. Thank you. #badportraits#greatpeople#celebrategood#celebratelives#covid19#stoboart#portraits#heroes#carehomes#restwell#youhavetaughtussomuch#loveyou

Today’s hero- Dr. Eileen De Villa, The medical officer of health for the city of Toronto- after hearing her heart breaking plea last night and today after seeing so many gatherings this weekend, I wanted to send some love her way. I can’t imagine to those who are fighting so hard to stop #covid19 what they are fearing and feeling after moments like these. They have gone through so much. Sweet Arya has been through treatment after treatment, test after test, and this would be such an incredible thing to be able to do. My beautiful friend and colleague, Paul Brandt, announced today he will be heading the anti-human trafficking task force and I can not express enough how proud of him I am and how much he has worked toward this. This is an incredibly difficult reality and Paul has been invested in stopping this awful situation in so many ways with leadership, action that educates and saves those who are vulnerable and will be such a force in this fight. To anyone who is saying negative things about this, I’m sure glad you are not the ones trying to change this giant trauma that we need to eliminate. @imalbertabound you are a gem, the fight is so real and I am so grateful that a heart and mind likes yours is standing strong for the change that so many need. #notinmycity#fightagainsthumantrafficking#paulbrandt#biglove#bigchange#heroes#covid19#celebrategood#badportraits

After surviving genocide and making his way go Calgary he opened @swb_yyc to help newcomers feel loved, at home and able to play soccer here in Calgary when everything else may have seemed scary or new. Since #covid19 Jean-Claude has shifted his business to make sure communities far and wide have food security, items that are staples to them and more. Here’s to you, Jean-Claude! You’re amazing!!! #heroes#badportraits#greatpeople#celebrategood#coronavirus#covid_19#calgarycares
Today’s heroes- again, I want to highlight all the grandparents and people in homes, care homes or their own that aren’t able to get the hugs they need let alone the care and love. They are waiting so patiently, waiting every day, they are holding onto hope and the best thing we can do for them all is stay safe and stay the course. They are our stories, they are our guides and they deserve so much. Here’s to all of you. We see you. We love you. We miss you. #badportraits#greatpeople#celebrategood#covid19#grandparents#carehomes#hugsfromafar

Today’s heroes- moms!!! You’ve been the rock for so many, you’ve held them when they’re scared, you’ve been balancing so much work and family, not to mention the new time with your partners during it all. You fix a scraped knee, you expand a worried heart. You feed the body and the soul, you play and laugh and show so much kindness. You lift them up when they need and you hold them so tight. You are heroes, and I hope you feel so celebrated, I hope you feel supported, I hope you feel like it’s going to be ok and in the meantime you are making sure that all those little’s feel like it already is. Big love to you all. Xoxo #badportraits#greatpeople#heroes#covid19#covid#celebrategood#moms#happymothersday2018

Today’s heroes- our kids, our students, our teens, our bright minds that have had to deal with so much change, uncertainty and fear. They are learning in new ways, trying to understand so much. Our kids now say “social distance please” and wear masks when they need to, know they have to learn or play while their parents work, and are missing all of their friends. Not to mention the ones who don’t have access to food or their teachers who made them feel special. Kids- of all ages- you are such heroes- and your future will be ok. Each time we hear some story of suffering and fear let the heart respond with its natural compassion. Each time we hear of acts of heroism and kindness let the heart celebrate.
To all the teachers- thank you. Thank you for pivoting quickly to help our kids, for balancing your own families with your students, for knowing the families that need extra support from food to emotional to mental aide. You are heroes and you deserve so much. To all your students who are confused and worried, but still doing their work, still looking to their teachers to lead them, thank you. Big love you all. You are making such a difference to so many. #badportraits#greatpeople#teachers#education#covid19#celebrategood#findthejoy#seethehope#itsgoingtobeok

Ms. Murphy is 100 years old and has just recovered from #covid19 with staff saying “its better than Christmas” to have seen her heal up and come out the other side. Super Nanny Kay is full of gumption and light, although going through much tragedy at Northwood Long-term care home, she is someone to cheer on, to look up to with hope and focus on a little good in days like these. I had the incredible opportunity to view the work of @badportraits for the first when she displayed “We AR all Queens” in October at @jubilee_ab. I adored the portrait series and even had a chance to speak (fangirl) with her regarding the series and her style.
And now ... she has captured the grace, integrity and leadership of Dr. Hinshaw (Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer) and others. Mandy was recently featured in @forbes “highlighting the women lead leadership in @canada during this historic time.” Congrats @badportraits. “... The world is full of beautiful moments, minds and hearts. When we can truly see the world of another, we cannot help but have an emotional tie that can transform into an understanding for others, as well as within ourselves ...” - Mandy Stobo.
Visit Mandy’s (@badportraits) site to view the limited edition prints that are available with a portion of sales going to support charity. Cheers.
Hey! It’s giveaway time!
I’m giving away a signed, 1 of 1, first edition print of my tee with @CareWear.ca! An initiative to support Canadian health care organizations and artists. Here’s how to enter:
