WHAT IS AN ULNAR COLLATERAL LIGAMENT INJURY OF THE ELBOW? An ulnar collateral ligament injury is an injury to a ligament in your elbow.
Ligaments are strong bands of tissue that connect one bone to another to form the joints. The elbow joint is made up of the bone in the upper arm (humerus) and bones of the forearm (ulna and radius).
The ulnar collateral ligament attaches the humerus to the ulna. The ulna is the lower arm bone that forms the bony point of the elbow. The lower end of the ulna connects to the wrist on the pinky finger side of the hand.
When a ligament is injured, it can be stretched, partially torn, or completely torn. A ligament injury is also called a sprain.
WHAT IS THE CAUSE?
Ulnar collateral ligament injuries can be caused by:
Overuse of the ligament from a sport or work activity that puts stress on your inner elbow, such as repeated throwing in baseball or football. The stress on the elbow can cause very tiny tears that get worse over time.
A sudden activity that twists or tears a ligament, such as a fall onto your elbow or onto an outstretched hand. The ligament can also be injured if another person lands on your elbow.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?
Symptoms may include:
▪️ Pain on the inner side of your elbow
▪️ Swelling and weakness
▪️ Loss of power with throwing

We’re starting the week off with a review today! Thank you for some great feedback after your first appointment Steve!
We try our best to make each and every appointment from start to finish a good experience for you!
This is particularly important as the reason you come to see us is because you’re in pain, so being able to make something you would expect to be unpleasant, into a positive experience is what we strive for!
Health is the new wealth
The last few weeks I’ve been forced to slow down due to an injury the pain had me sobbing like a baby.
My back, hip and shoulder 😩
It sucks being injured and having to slow down-fitness is my life, so I’ve had to make some changes.
I’m pretty much a full time yogi now and super chilled out.
There would be times in the past I would of got Depressed not being able to move at 100 mph but times like this I tend to go inwards and spend time reflecting on how far I have come.
Train my brain to be even more stronger💪
So my focus has been stretching and strengthening using my body weight, Reading lots of inspirational literature, better new nutrition I’m pretty much on a veggie/vegan diet , meditation and spending time with friends. Oh and a lot of treatments.
My message here is focus what you can do not can’t do😜
Do I feel happy? Yes😊
Sometimes you got to remind yourself you’re one Badass Bitch and no one can stop your magical ass.
I will never be beaten!
Gary is fortunate enough to be a second generation chiropractor. Raised in Perth, Gary enjoyed an extremely active lifestyle and in 1996 he completed his Bachelor of Science at UWA, moving to Sydney in 1999 to complete his Masters of Chiropractic and returning to practice at Stirling in 2000. He has since completed internationally recognised post graduate sports qualifications and a year in chiropractic paediatrics.
In 2005 Gary enjoyed the honour of being selected as one of only 17 chiropractors worldwide to provide care at the World Games in Germany. He is also an avid supporter of the charity ‘Hands on India’, with whom he had the privilege of providing chiropractic care to some of the most impoverished orphanage and slum communities within India.
As an ongoing beneficiary of the chiropractic lifestyle while growing up, and as a proud father himself, Gary’s primary passion continues to remain that of a family orientated chiropractor. He continues to maintain an extensive interest within the field of sports chiropractic and counts many World Champions, Olympic Gold medallists and a host of international and domestic professional and amateur athletes as clients.
Feeling stiff and sore?⠀
You can easily get DOMS (delayed-onset muscle soreness) if you’re jumping into resistance training too quick!⠀
Take it easy and give your body time to adjust. Prevent muscle stiffness by:⠀
✅Warming up and cooling before and after exercise.⠀
✅Practising good posture.⠀
✅Exercising regularly. (don’t forget to rehydrate!)⠀
✅Having a regular check up with your Chiropractor.⠀
If you’re at the gym and need an assessment, swing by at the clinic and have a check with Dr. Michael Benporath.⠀
Club Bunker 💪⠀
Almost all traditional gym training is sagittal or longitudinal (forward/back or straight up). Tired of 2 dimensional living, @jusdenv is determined to get some 🔥 back into the transverse and frontal planes 👊
An interesting article on forward head posture. Something we are definitely seeing more of these days! • “Forward head posture is an internal factor responsible for neck and shoulder pain. The forward head position creates expansion of the upper thorax and contraction of the lower thorax; these morphological changes lead to decreased respiratory function.” •
Koseki, T., Kakizaki, F., Hayashi, S., Nishida, N., & Itoh, M. (January 01, 2019). Effect of forward head posture on thoracic shape and respiratory function. Journal of Physical Therapy Science, 31, 1, 63-68.

What is HIIT?
The acronym HIIT refers to the term high intensity interval training. This is a program that uses frequent short burst exercises lasting from 30 secs to 4 mins, followed by recovery periods of 1 to 4 mins. These sequences are repeated in 2 to 6 cycles per session, which aim for a heart rate of 85-90%+ to be reached during the exercises.
Opting for HIIT programs opposed to moderate continuous training (MCT) have been shown to:
- Enhance exercise capacity, muscle strength and muscle oxidation
In addition may also improve:
- Cardiovascular fitness and function
- Anxiety and depression severity
- Cardiovascular disease
- Spinal arthritis
- Multiple sclerosis

There is a big misconception when it comes to chiropractic. Many people say “Once you start you have to keep going” or “They want me to come in often, i just want to be adjusted once”
The thing with chiropractic is that yes you do need to be checked regularly. Why? Because your body changes. Today you may have been sitting all day at a conference, or you may have over done it at the gym, you may have fallen off your bicycle or had a very stressful morning with the kids. Ensuring that there is no interference blocking the messages from your brain to your body will ensure that your body and mind can handle everything you throw at it.
When you're crafting your marketing message, you need to create a message that speaks directly to the person you want to attract.
To do this, you can think about your customer avatar.
Your customer avatar is your ideal customer. To come up with this avatar, you need to dive deep into who they actually are and all over their characteristics and traits so you can get super clear on who you are talking to.
Once you do this, you can think about a message that would attract your ideal avatar. Your message needs to really speak to that person.

💥 ACUTE LOWER BACK PAIN MANAGEMENT 💥
Let’s face it. Acute lower back pain sucks. Sometimes there’s a specific movement that causes it to flare up; other times we wake up with lower back spasms and most movements become painful to perform. ⚠️
After red flags are ruled out, the goal of the initial acute phase of recovery is to KEEP THINGS MOVING‼️ Often times, because of pain, we tend to tense and stiffen up to avoid moving into pain. But this actually can make things worse!! 💢
Often times, our lower back and glute muscles tend to tense up during an acute bout of lower back pain, because that’s our body’s way of protecting an area that has lost integrity. ⛔️
Proper guided movement and exercise can initially help:
1. Improve blood flow to the surrounding tissue
2. Desensitize the area from threat
3. Calm down “angry” muscles 💆🏻♀️
4. Help reduce our system’s perception of pain and threat 🧘🏻♂️
5. Improve range of motion
Here are 4 movements to help move somebody through acute lower back pain:
1️⃣ Pelvic tilts in 4 point position
2️⃣ Cat-cow within a pain-free range
3️⃣ Glute Bridge within pain-free range
4️⃣ Pelvic rocks into child pose
The goal with all these 4 movements is to first keep somebody moving and also improve ROM and mobility. Note, this advice is NOT a substitute for foregoing seeing your local rehab professional if you are suffering an injury or are experiencing acute bouts of pain! Try these out and let us know what you think! #artofmobility

Queen of the castle 👑✨
Alright queens, time to claim your castle. Go out, get your goals, and ladies raise your fellow queens up with you. Plus if you like what you’re wearing while doing it - you might as well post it twice amirite?!
About to get REAL here!...💯
(Long post but you may learn something🤷🏽♀️)
On Sunday night (after coming back to Waterdown from TO) during a snow storm, I accidentally locked my keys in my Jeep while getting gas. I couldn’t believe it— I was soo upset and frustrated. I was tired and hungry as well— “Worst day ever” I thought to myself— I more or less felt like crying.
Thankfully I was able to reach Kevin, my fiancé, to see if he could bring me my spare Jeep key from home. The roads were absolutely terrible so he said he would bring them but may take a while (30-40mins)
In the mean time I was waiting inside the gas station, absolutely miserable. I just wanted to be at home and getting organized for a new week. So naturally, I called my mom to vent about the situation (lol 😂 poor her). She was very thoughtful and comforting as she always is. I immediately felt better after talking to her.
When I hung up, I realized I needed to “get a grip”. I had this moment of clarity and told myself to stop feeling sorry for myself— that there are a lot worse things in life. I completely changed my MINDSET.
In that moment I thought about all the blessings in my life. I thought about how fortunate and lucky I am to,
Have a Mom that I CAN call and talk to because she’s still here,
Have a loving lifetime partner that will always show up for me,
Having the privilege of owning a vehicle, etc.
👉🏼So my point is, it’s so easy to get caught up in some of the more negative things going on in your life. And it’s even easier to forget about all of the amazing things you DO have going on—All of these blessings that we sometimes take for granted.
It’s ok to have a “bad day” every now and then but please don’t forget a simple SHIFT IN YOUR MINDSET can change this completely.
Dr. Taryn ❤️🙏🏼
PS: @kevinbrownell.dc came to the rescue and I DID get back into my Jeep 😂😀

Hey guys 👋🏼Just wanted to send out a PSA to please stop getting your nutrition advice from Netflix documentaries.
The amount of people I have seen that are up-rooting their entire way of eating because it 1 documentary makes me sad. Or people who are posting things on social media, who have no education on the matter, and now are spreading incorrect information.
1. These documentaries are very biased and only bring one side of the issue/argument
2. Fear is being instilled instead of actual education
3. There is an underlying agenda being pushed
4. There is zero peer reviewed literature proving meat causes cancer
5. No diet is the magic diet or the best diet (keto, intermittent fasting, high carb, vegan, carnivore) . If you choose a way of eating for ethical reasons, I totally get and respect that. This post is strictly coming from a nutritional standpoint. .
Trust me I love a good educational documentary! But the nutrition documentaries have become insanely biased and therefore leaving the consumer very confused. Please consult an actual trained nutrition professional for proper advice and stop being self doctor based on one documentary.
