Doing a yoga session after being a little under the weather with a cold since right before Christmas. I'm back to teaching at The Centre tomorrow morning at 8:30! Noticing some stiffness that I'm going to have to work out. #yoga#yogainstructor#2020#christmasmusicplaying
I know Christmas is over but before the New Year, you should check this great album out!
A Lakeland Christmas: Vol 1
My favorite from the album is “Santa Tell Me” done by Tim Steiner. I thought it was an original song but it turns out it’s an Ariana Grande cover! It’s really well done. I don’t know why, but depressing Christmas songs are my favorite!
Thanks to @jessecarlvinyl for one of my new favorite Christmas albums!
🎶 Heartfelt rant 🎶 For the last two years I have had the incredible pleasure of being Ms.Noir - poster girl and cohost of San Francisco’s @noir.city Film Noir movie festival. I’ve had the opportunity to be up on that beautiful 1920s Castro Theater movie palace stage singing, introducing films, wearing amazing vintage outfits (thank you @relicvintage!), and getting to become part of the Noir City and Castro theater families including the Film Noir Foundation president and TCM Noir Alley host, @eddie_muller8591.
As any Ms.Noir’s last job, there is an annual 1-day Noir City Xmas where they show a holiday themed Noir film and release the new poster with next year’s Ms.Noir. I recently flew back to SF to attend this event, and got to sing ‘I’ll Be Home For Christmas’ with Nick Rossi (@a.modernist). That song felt right to sing, as I do very much still feel like SF is my home (and the wartime lyrics of “if only in my dreams” seemed appropriately Noir).
With New Year’s around the corner (please remember to use an apostrophe when writing this phrase, btw) I bet many of us are taking stock of the things, people and actions that are important to us. Affirming meaningful friendships, singing, and remaining engaged through creative pursuits are high on my list for the start of the ‘20s. If you have your own list (and you’ve read this far, yay!) what’s on it?
Merry Christmas!!!!(1 day late🙃) I intended to post this yesterday but you know, Christmas, being stuck on the couch, ehhhh. But actually this is good because we've been listening to this album over and over all Advent and after all Christmas isn't over yet. So if you haven't quite had your fill of iconicism (totally a word) this Christmas, do yourself and those around you a favor and pair your leftovers with Karen Carpenter and her behind-the-curtains-but-also-mvp brother.
Angie Having Fun with #wendywilliams and Norman singing a Christmas song. I’m sure the original song sounda nothing like that 😁😁😁 do you know that one person who can ruin every song but won’t stop singing???⚠️⚠️⚠️
I’m a Christmas Unicorn! Everyone loves that classic Sufjan Stevens holiday hit. It’s the final song in his 10-volume, 100-song Christmas collection, spanning these two box sets - “Songs For Christmas” and “Silver & Gold”!
To truly honor this amazing bundle of jolly songs I wanted to become a unicorn myself. Many of you will recall that on Halloween I battled a Sexkiller who was on the loose in my Carpenter Brut videos. You’ll remember I ultimately decapitated him with a record, but after that I proceeded to remove his skin and don it myself. And thus, I am happy to announce that I have completed my transformation into the Christmas Unicorn! Yay!
If I’m being honest, one of the real reasons I chose to marry Ryan is he actually had “Silver & Gold” in his vinyl collection. It’s a very rare box - only 2000 ever made. He found his copy in a shop called The Groove in Nashville back in 2016. As he tells it, he was about to check out then lo, the heavens opened up and a beam of sunlight shined to a high shelf he hadn’t noticed before. Upon this glorious perch sat this box, a white whale waiting just for him. It was used, but in pristine condition. All the supplemental material was there: the music sheets, the coloring book, the whole package. And now here it is, joined by last year’s release of “Songs For Christmas”, which is actually the older part of the collection, but was just recently pressed.
The music itself is great. A lot of it has a very DIY aesthetic to it, and originally the EPs had just been annual Christmas gifts to Sufjan’s friends and family. “Silver & Gold” however gets VERY strange about halfway through, becoming a long, space odyssey on Vol. VIII, “Christmas Infinity Voyage”. At one point it even calls back to Impossible Soul for a bit. Plus the highlight has to be the bizarre electronic version of Do You Hear What I Hear?
And of course it isn’t Christmas in this house until we play Christmas Unicorn! So give these a spin if you’re looking for some holiday cheer! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all my friends out there! I hope this week brings you lots of happiness and great memories with your loved ones!
