One in eight bird species are threatened with global extinction, and once widespread creatures such as the puffin, snowy owl and turtle dove are plummeting towards oblivion, according to the definitive study of global bird populations.
The State of the World’s Birds, a five-year compendium of population data from the best-studied group of animals on the planet, reveals a biodiversity crisis driven by the expansion and intensification of agriculture.
In all, 74% of 1,469 globally threatened birds are affected primarily by farming. Logging, invasive species and hunting are the other main threats. “Each time we undertake this assessment we see slightly more species at risk of extinction – the situation is deteriorating and the trends are intensifying,” said Tris Allinson, senior global science officer for BirdLife International, which produced the report. “The species at risk of extinction were once on mountaintops or remote islands, such as the pink pigeon in Mauritius. Now we’re seeing once widespread and familiar species – European turtle doves, Atlantic puffins and kittiwakes – under threat of global extinction.
This is shocking and we have to change how we treat nature right now!

TV channels and radio stations changed the schedule of their programs in a bid to mark Blackout Tuesday, which represents the death of George Floyd in the custody of the police department. Artists and several other music business leaders announced on Jun. 2 that the show will be paused.
Nothing else needs to be said 👇🏽👇🏾👇🏿 @zocogirl
I watched Cowspiracy and here are some facts from it...
🐄 51% of greenhouse gas emissions come from animal agriculture
🐄 30% of global water consumption is by livestock
🐄 91% of the Amazon rainforest’s destruction is for raising livestock or growing grains
🐄 Nitrous oxide is 296x more dangerous than the carbon compound, 65% of global nitrous oxide emissions come from animal agriculture
If the energy industry (oil, coal, gas) ceased to exist overnight – a crisis emergency will still happen, predominantly due to our animal agriculture industry😕
I feel like it’s a documentary that needs to be watched a few times to let the messages sink in. One activist claimed, “If you eat meat, you are not an environmentalist; period”.
Your diet is very personal to you – from your culture, upbringing, religion, so many factors can influence your choice in diet. I first experimented with vegetarianism at university – I went cold turkey but did not substitute enough protein so felt run-down and gave up.
Now, I describe myself as a flexitarian because I actively minimise my meat consumption due to environmental, ethical and health concerns🌱However, I will eat meat if someone cooks for me, to “treat” myself at a restaurant or if its marked-down for clearance (rather someone eat it than it go to waste, right?).
One thing I have definitely learnt – is that the current animal agriculture industry is 𝐍𝐎𝐓 sustainable.
It’s an industry that is growing but, for the sake of our environment, it should be 𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨. Cowspiracy claims lobbyists are largely to blame for the lack of government regulations, rules and system change.
What’s more shocking for me, is that companies have gone after activists in big lawsuits and activists have been killed for raising awareness on the animal agriculture industry😐
Value of reserves could fall by two-thirds as Covid-19 hastens peak in demand, study shows.
The coronavirus outbreak could trigger a $25tn (£20tn) collapse in the fossil fuel industry by accelerating a terminal decline for the world’s most polluting companies.
A study has found that the value of the world’s fossil fuel reserves could fall by two-thirds, sooner than the industry expects, because the Covid-19 crisis has hastened the peak for oil, gas and coal demand.
The looming fossil fuel collapse could pose “a significant threat to global financial stability” by wiping out the market value of fossil fuel companies, according to financial thinktank Carbon Tracker.
Kingsmill Bond, the author of the report, said: “Now is the time to plan an orderly wind-down of fossil fuel assets and manage the impact on the global economy rather than try to sustain the unsustainable.” The report says the world is “witnessing the decline and fall of the fossil fuel system” owing to the quicker-than-expected growth of clean energy alternatives coupled with the collapse in demand for fossil fuels amid the pandemic.
Do you think it’s a good idea for a government to keep propping up a doomed industry with taxpayer funded subsidies and tax breaks, just because they fund their parties and re-election campaigns??? Voting for the climate also makes financial sense!

Another natural disaster in the making in Russia, with a 20,000 ton oil leak within the Arctic Circle.
Apparently, Putin only found out about it on two days after it happened via social media... WTF?
WE ARE WATCHING YOU!
Today we demonstrated in front of the town hall in Hamburg again.
The governmental neogations about the stimulus package have been going on for a while now.
All of these important decisions have to be in line with the paris agreement.
Today is also the day before a new coal power plant in Germany is being connected to the grid.... in 2020... this is truly making me angry.
We will not sit still while decisions are made that will affect our future and the one of generations to come ✊🌱 Today and every day we are watching and we will not stop! 📷@floriankoen.ig
