Happy #GlobalRunningDay2020 ! I hope you took some time during your run today to ponder the systemic racism, sexism, homophobia and economic inequality ingrained in our nation’s culture. I don’t have the same worries that female runners and runners of color do when I step out the door, and that is never lost on me.
This was my spirit animal during today’s run. Happy global running day to my fellow turtles!

It’s Global Running Day, and in a few days it will be National Trails Day. To me, running has been a motivator, constantly challenging me to be better and do better. Through training, racing, making good choices, and practicing healthy habits, becoming a runner is one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I’ve met so many amazing people, experienced world class marathons and events like Boston and Big Sur, won a few races and placed highly at others, and a few years into my journey, also added trail running to the mix. Trail running allows me to relax, go easy, and enjoy the dirt underneath my feet and breathe in the scents of nature. Plus the views are pretty rad.
The running community is strong and I feel so lucky to be apart of it. Continuing to log miles without knowing when I will be able to test my fitness at a race next has been rewarding. I love running so much. I use it as a daily reminder that I can and will do hard things now and in the future.
So for today, we celebrate running. I got out at sunrise for a 10.5 mile dirt road jaunt, thankful for every hot and humid step. ❤️ 🏃🏻♀️
Today the Crim Fitness Foundation Board of Directors officially postponed the 44th HAP Crim Festival of Races until 2021. We are all disappointed, but as the leading example of positive public health in the Flint and Genesee Community, it’s the Crim’s duty to make the most responsible decision for the safety of our community. Instead of losing your motivation, embrace the virtual option the Crim is offering for 2020. We can still train and support each other. In a year when not many, if any races will actually happen we need to cheer each other on more than ever. We always look forward to seeing everyone out smiling, waving and encouraging each other on their training runs and walks. That aspect doesn’t go away. So let’s make the most of a virtual year and get those miles in. If you have signed up for the race or training program, then let’s do this. If you haven’t then go to https://crim.org/races/ and register. Flint always shines when challenged and we hope all of you will continue to bring that passion to the running and walking community this year. #crimstrong#completerunnerflint

Feeling a little melancholy today. Tonight should have been a happy gathering of runners for the Crim Training night kickoff. Meeting new friends, catching up with old ones. Instead there were virtual meetups, zoom calls etc. Will we be able to hug our friends again? Celebrate a sweaty Tuesday evening run with beers at Market Tap? I posted the medal pic because it was the last “normal” and non virtual race I ran. I’m so hoping it won’t be the only one this year.... #sadrunner#socialdistancerunner#inthistogether#headgoat50k#werunflint#completerunnerflint
Let’s keep it going! The response to @brooksrunning initial donation of 10,000 shoes was impressive and overwhelming. So with your help, we’re partnering with Brooks to do it again. We’ll donate a pair of Brooks shoes to a local healthcare worker for every purchase of $150+ on Brooks gear, from now through May 10. You can shop online at our website www.thecompleterunner.com or call your order into the store 810-233-8851. If you would like to nominate a local healthcare worker with your purchase give us call or send us a message! Let's give back to the heroes. #healthcareheroes#buy1give1#community#allinthistogether#completerunnerflint#brooksrunning
I went double time today. It was one of those gloomy days. I picked a route inspired by Romano. Hills! I ran moderately. Took a breath on my 3rd hill for a picture and then changed up the route for a mile in the trails behind the high school.
When Andy came home we went out to run another 4.22 miles.
Andy’s very competitive. He left me in the dust!
However, I did run faster the second time even though I couldn’t keep up. #CRU#completerunnerflint#doublerun#runmichigan#couldntkeepup

Happy Earth Day to all my fellow earthlings! This planet is full of good hearted and caring people. Too much of our time is focused on the negativity surrounding us but days like today really capture the true camaraderie of mankind! Keep staying positive, keep moving forward and keep being true to yourself and together we will get through this! #completerunnerflint#earthday2020#inthistogether#runnersofinstagram
Progress is progress big or small.
When I looked back at my calendar I had ran or walked every single day for 10 days. That made a lot of sense when I tried to figure out why my knee was hurting.
RESPECT your body.
Building my miles with endurance and strength needs to be done with courage.
The courage to train without fear of breaking
The courage to not push your limits.
YESTERDAY, I Rested, I let my body recover with gratitude.
It was a great run. My body is getting stronger. It more than just a run.
It’s 20 minutes of PT just to prepare to run. And it’s protein smoothies, stretching and relaxing to recover.
But it’s COMING together! Six months post chemo! #itjustanothermarathon#cancersurvivor#nevergiveup#chemohairdontcare#keepsmiling#ultrarunning#runmichigan#backroads#cru#completerunnerflint
Holy moly it was beautiful out! My legs were tired from yesterday’s hike, but I wanted to soak up the sunshine so I settled into a happy pace and ran a nice, relaxed 7. @oberonkenobi took Luna and ran an unofficial 10k PR!! So proud of him. .
I was thinking about how this time last year I was just about to go into peak injury mode, and was hitting total mental burnout as well. I had just finished running a long run I cried through a lot of, and was about to be barely able to hobble a mile. Running started creating more anxiety than enjoyment and I hated that so much. .
It felt really nice today to just run whatever I feel like, and feel good mentally and physically. I’m also feeling so grateful to be settling back into my old “comfy” paces. I’ve been pleasantly surprised lately to see that my “easier” effort is often faster than I feel like I’m running. I really missed having a good relationship with running. I’m working really hard to keep it that way right now. ❤️ .
